The present invention relates to an optoelectronic method and device for monitoring a wide spatial angle, in which the electromagnetic radiation irradiated by an object of interest is directed, by a mobile explorer element, fixed deflection elements and an input objective (according to the so-called linear scanning method "), on at least one receiving element which, after conversion and amplification, emits optical signals used to trace an image
A device of this kind is the subject of German patent 16 23 425. In this patent, the explorer element used is rotary, so that a large fraction of its rotation corresponds to a dead time and that only a third of it is used to represent the image. a large electronic bandwidth for the amplification characteristic, which reduces the sensitivity of the system. German patent 15 47 272 describes another device of this kind using an explorer mirror placed parallel to the path of the radiation (ie in front of the entry lens in the direction of passage of the rays). In this German patent, the mirror describes a complete rotation on the longitudinal axis of the device. The German Patent Application published under No. 24 54 480 describes an infrared ray search and tracking device using a tilting mirror whose l oscillation has the function of compensating for the instantaneous difference between the trajectory of the object, therefore the direction of incidence of the rays, and the direction of the radiation deflected by the mirror the present invention aims to improve the devices of the aforementioned kind so as to allow, on the one hand to provide the explorer element with an individually extensible angle of rotation, and on the other hand to obtain a large image angle at a short distance
This object is achieved, in accordance with the invention, by a device in which the object of interest is analyzed by the explorer element according to a periodic oscillating movement. the advantage of this process is that it makes it possible to obtain a favorable ratio between the time necessary for the representation of the image and the time lost as dead time, and that consequently it clearly increases the sensitivity of the system by comparison with that of the linear scanning method described in German patent 15 47 272. For an image angle of around 300 the dead time will only be 10 to 15%. In addition, there is no caching effect within the exploration angle.
This dead time is determined by the periodic oscillation and also remains immutable when the image angle increases or decreases.
Depending on the circumstances, it may be advantageous for the explorer element to simultaneously explore in a plane perpendicular to the oscillation movement. Depending on pre-existing conditions, the explorer element will be a quadratic prism, a plane prism or a mirror composed appropriately. In most cases, the decisive factor will be the opening of the apparatus by which the exploration should be carried out. Its dimensions must be adapted geometrically to those of the explorer element if we want to obtain the largest possible aperture for the optical system
According to an advantageous development of the invention, the explorer element is fixed on a rotary axis mounted in plain or rolling bearings, or on elastic cardan joints serving as bearings on said axis, and the device further comprises a recorder of capacitive distances determining the instantaneous position of the oscillation. In particular, by using an elastic cardan joint per bearing and a suitable spreading of the cardan joints, one will obtain as well very small angles of rotation as, by coupling several elastic universal joints, comparatively large angles of rotation. the number of joints will be a simple way to influence the magnitude of the elastic constant
In this order of idea, it could be judicious that two pairs of elastic cardan joints, joined by a socket, are fixed, with the ends far apart, in a frame and, by their ends close together, in a suitable recess of the element. explorer. This arrangement is particularly advantageous because it allows, with a pair of elastic cardan joints per bearing, to double the angle of rotation compared to that obtained by using only one of these joints per bearing n in addition to the integration of the axis of rotation in the mirror body allows, with elastic cardan joints, to reduce the overall length of the positive device I1 it will also be advantageous to fix, to a piece of elastic cardan joints or the explorer element accessible by the aforementioned recess, the segmental rotor of a capacitive stroke recorder cooperating, during oscillation, with a flat stator fixed to the chassis and facing said rotor. tances may be concentric with the axis of rotation so as to produce only a reduced microphone or to eliminate, to a large extent, harmful interference frequencies by their influence on the vibrations of the system
With regard to the configuration of the device, it will be advantageous for four fixed mirrors to face the two effective reflecting faces of the explorer element, these four mirrors directing the radiation perceived on the receiving element by the intermediary of a convex polygonal mirror placed centrally, in the direction of incidence, between the explorer element and entry objective
This arrangement will give a compact and symmetrical device. The receiving element will, in this case, be surrounded by a Dewar tube cooled by a cooling element using the Joule-Xhomson effect. According to another characteristic of the invention, the explorer element will be suspended from a gimbal in a yoke, by its chassis.
The invention is described below in detail with reference to a preferred, nonlimiting example of embodiment shown in the accompanying drawings where the same parts have the same reference numerals and in which - Figure 1 is a side view , in partial section,
of the part of the apparatus containing the device
according to the invention; and - Figure 2 is another side view, also in
partial cut, after rotation of 900, of the device
reil of figure 1
The device shown is supposed to be mounted on a carrier flying vehicle such as an airplane or a helicopter
The electromagnetic radiation of a target and its environment, penetrating through the window 1 in the form of a spherical cap, is fractionated by the explorer element 2 provided with two reflecting surfaces 4 and 4 'perpendicular to each other, and deflected, in the direction shown by the arrows, on the convex polygonal mirror 7 placed centrally below the explorer element, by the deflecting mirrors 5 to 6 ′ fixed to the wall of the chassis 15 and facing the four reflecting surfaces 4 to 4 'of the explorer element. From this convex polygonal mirror 7, the radiation reaches, by the objective 8 shown in broken lines, on the receiving element 9 which can be constituted by a single detector or by a series mounting of detectors and which is placed in the plane focal of said objective
This detector is integrated in a Dewar 10 tube and is cooled by the Joule effect cooling element.
Thomson 11 supplied with nitrogen gas via the flexible pipe 13. The electronics for pre-amplification and signal processing are arranged around the Dewar tube in the form of a tube in the form of a cylindrical crown 23
In the example shown, the explorer element 2 is constituted by a quadratic polygonal mirror placed in a search head with infrared rays for an angular range of approximately + 302. the movement is ensured by a mobile electromagnetic coil 14 and by an oscillating system made of a set of elastic cardan joints which will be described later in detail. In another embodiment of the invention, not shown in the drawings, the explorer element may be installed in a fixed earth station and be constituted by a quadravic prism or by a plane prism. The support of the axis 24 bearing the mirror or the prism may be ensured by plain or rolling bearings
The polygonal prism 2 has a central recess 19 of circular section in which are fixed the elastic cardan joints ensuring its suspension
Two of these seals are mounted, in a way "in series", of each side in a socket 21 (FIG. 2), each of these groups "in series" being fixed, at one of its ends in a part of the case of the device, and at its other end in the recess 19, so that one obtains two branches mounted in parallel. Between these two branches may remain, depending on the length of the mirror body, a greater or lesser interval which, in other embodiments of the invention, will provide a location for coupling other elastic universal joints
In the lower part (in the direction of the gaze) of the polygonal drawer 2 or in an area of the part of the elastic cardan joints integrated in the undue mirror body accessible by an appropriate recess in the mirrors, is fixed the segmental rotor of a race recorder 22. During oscillations, this rotorysegmentaire cooperates with the flat stator facing it, fixed on a shoe of the shoemaker. the mirror is set in motion by a mobile electromagnetic coil 14 with permanent magnet. This magnet is fixed and wedged in the material of the mirror body, near the segmental rotor
The exploration is done according to a sinusoidal movement with a frequency between 10 and 20 Hz. The angle of legation of the search head is limited to + 19 by the series mounting of the detectors. To allow the exploration of an area on the horizon despite the pitching of the carrier, the elements of mirrors and bearings 2 to 16 are surrounded by a frame 15 mounted in a yoke 16 and able to oscillate from approximately + 7 on the axis of rotation 17 perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the device. the mirror 2 is thus suspended from the universal joint in the yoke 16 by means of the chassis 15. The drive motor is placed on one side of the yoke and the synchronous angular adjustment motor is placed on the opposite side of this yoke. For clarity, these two motors are not shown in the drawings. To compensate for the roll movement, the search head can turn in one block, under the action of the motor 18 (FIG. 2) on the roll axis of the carrier flying machine so as to be able to explore on the horizon, using an inertia platform not shown, an image angle of about # 30 in azimuth and # 1 in elevation in order to detect a target
