Abstract
The butterfly valve body (1) is designed to be clamped between the flanges of the pipework. A water-tight joint is ensured by the use of a split ring seal (11) which is held in place in the valve body by the ring (15) and compressed slightly by the pipe flanges due to the projection (17). The valve disc (5) is mounted on the shaft such that it is offset longitudinally and has a spherical profile which mates with the seal (11). The disc is held in a floating forked bracket on the operating shaft which allows it to take up an even seating on the joint and form a watertight seal.
