Abstract

A vat for anaerobic fermentation of a biomass to form methane comprises a vessel with an offtake level to limit the liquid contents to about 2/3 of the vat capacity so that the upper part of the vat can also act as a pressurised methane reservoir. The vat is lined with an impermeable layer of butyl rubber backed by a layer of thermal insulation material and a supporting structure of e.g. steel, concrete.
