Abstract

The wiring head is moved on a traversing table in two orthogonal directions and in which the pieces to be wired are automatically fed and centred with respect to the wiring head. The work piece is centred by moving the tool post carrying the head and table by adjusting orthogonal lead screws, and during wiring, the wiring head is held onto the work piece by a magnetic clamp. The wiring head is driven by servo systems which are numerically controlled by a stored program after initial centering. Registration of the head and work piece is performed using a closed circuit television system fixed to the tool post. The appts. can be used for electronic circuits and microcircuits.

Description

The invention relates to point-to-point wiring machines for electronic circuits and micro-circuits.

A point-to-point wiring machine for electronic circuits usually has three main mechanical sub-assemblies: a support for the parts to be wired, i.e. electronic circuits to which connection wires will be wired, a wiring head support comprising in particular a system for controlling the movements of the wiring head and a system for supplying the connection wire, a sighting device used in particular for the automatic centering of the circuits to which the connection wires will be wired. In some of the cabling machines known to date, the support sub-assembly of the parts to be cabled is movable, since it is carried by a fast movable table, the support table being movable in two perpendicular x and y directions defining a work plane in which the position of the weld is defined. This type of machine has the disadvantage of setting in motion a large mass because most of the time this mechanical sub-assembly includes a magazine for the parts to be wired and wired parts.

Other known cabling machines include a sub-assembly for supporting the fixed cabling parts, the sub-assembly consisting of the sighting member and the centering member being movable and fixed on a rapid movable table. The latter type of wiring machine, however, has the disadvantage of subjecting, during operation, the optical systems of the sighting member to significant accelerations which can cause frequent misadjustments. In addition, the sighting member increases the mass in motion, which requires, for a suitable precision of the relative positions of the piece to be wired, the wiring head, the use of costly position servomechanisms taking into account the level of vibration of the masses in movement.

The wiring machine according to the invention overcomes the aforementioned drawbacks. The point-to-point cabling machine for electronic circuits according to the invention comprises a support for the parts to be wired fixed and provided with an automatic supply system for the parts, a cabling head support comprising a system for controlling the movement of the wiring head and a sighting device allowing the automatic centering of the part to be wired with respect to an initial position of the wiring head.

According to a characteristic of the object of the invention, the support of the wiring head is secured to a rapid movable table allowing the movement of the wiring head in two orthogonal directions x, y defining the work plane of the end of the wiring head. The sighting device making it possible to define a fixed reference point in the work plane is integral with the mobile platform of a table with crossed movements in two directions parallel to the work plane.

Such a wiring machine can be used for wiring electronic circuits and microcircuits, the positioning accuracy of the wiring head allowing the use of machines of this type in the case of micro-circuits or integrated circuits.

According to FIG. 1, the point-to-point wiring machine for electronic circuits according to the invention comprises a first fixed assembly A comprising a support for the parts to be wired 1 provided with a system 2 for automatically supplying these parts. By way of nonlimiting example, the support of the parts to be welded 1 is constituted by an oven 10 supporting the part to be wired plus a step-by-step indexer 11. The automatic parts supply system is, for example, constituted by a system belt rewinder-unwinder 2. The circuits to be welded are presented in the form of a roll tape 21. The band of circuits to be welded has on its edge a series of perforations at the step of the step indexer 11.The step by step indexer 11 according to the movement diagram shown in FIG. 1 allows the unwinding of the circuit strip to unwind the roller 21 and the winding of the strip at the level of the roller 22 i the unwinding of the strip being this fact ensured at the level of the support 1 of the parts to be welded and of the furnace 10.

The step-by-step indexer 11 ensures the sequential scrolling of the circuit strip above the furnace 10, and thus makes it possible to define, for each circuit to be welded, a work plane represented in FIG. 1 by the xy coordinate system.

The wiring machine according to the invention also comprises a set B supporting a working tool constituted by a wiring head 30. The set B comprises a support 3 for the wiring head on which a drive motor is mounted 31. The drive motor 31 makes it possible, by a set of gears not shown in FIG. 1, to control the movement of the welding head in a plane perpendicular to the work plane xy. The point-to-point wiring machine according to the invention also comprises an assembly
C constituted by a sighting member 4 allowing the automatic centering of the part to be wired with respect to the wiring head.

According to the invention, the support 3 of the wiring head is secured to a rapid movable table 32 allowing the displacement of the wiring head according to the two orthogonal directions xy defining the work plane. The sighting member 4 makes it possible to define a fixed reference point in the work plan. According to the invention the sighting member is integral with the mobile platform of a mobile table with crossed movements 5. The table with crossed movements 5 is mobile in two directions parallel to the work plane. A supply system 6 for the wiring head 30 enables this wiring head to be supplied by the wiring wire; the supply being ensured, in a manner well known to those skilled in the art, at constant tension of the wiring wire so as not to disturb the movement of the wiring head during its movements. constant voltage supply will not be described in detail. The operation of the point-to-point cabling machine according to the invention shown in FIG. 1 is as follows: the step-by-step scrolling of the strip of circuits to be welded being ensured by the step-by-step indexer 11 above from the oven 10, the movement of the wiring head 30, in the two orthogonal directions defining the work plane, at coordinate points xi yi with respect to the fixed mark defined in the work plane from the sighting member 4 , ensures the wiring at these points by the movement of the wiring head in a plane perpendicular to the work plane. The coordinate points xi yi are determined points of the work plane or remarkable points of the electrical circuit to be wired.

The values of these coordinates are stored in memory before the wiring sequence for each of the circuits arranged on the strip. The displacements of the wiring head 30 at the points of coordinates xi yi and the movement of this wiring head in the plane orthogonal to the work plane are programmed taking into account the values of these coordinates stored in memory. The process of programming the movement of the wiring head 30 will be described in great detail below.

In order to ensure the programming of the movements of the wiring head 30, the support 3 of the wiring head comprises means 7 for fixing the support to the sighting member 4. The means for fixing the support for the head wiring to the sighting member are shown in detail in Figures 2a and 2b.

According to Figures 2a, 2b and 2c the support 3 of the wiring head 30 comprises means for retracting the wiring head of the line of sight zz 'of the sighting member. The retraction means of the wiring head allow, for example, the rotation along a plane parallel to the work plane of the support 3 of the wiring head and the movement of the latter in the work plane. This movement is assumed to be sufficient to ensure the release of the line of sight zz 'from the sighting member 4. According to FIGS. 2a and 2b, the means 7 for fixing the support of the wiring head to the sighting member include a movable bolt 70 driven by a drive motor 71.

The strike 3200 is discovered by the retraction of the support 3 of the wiring head. By way of nonlimiting example, the retraction of the support 3 of the wiring head obtained by rotation of this support in a plane parallel to the work plane xy is effected by means of the bolt 70 acting on an inclined plane 331 forming part of the support 3 (the inclined plane is represented in FIG. 2c).

The support 3 of the welding head thus constitutes a lever whose fixed point is integral with the mobile platform of the fast moving table, the lever being mobile in a plane parallel to the work plane xy.

During the programming phase, for a specific type of circuit, the bolt 70 is engaged in the keeper 3 200 having FIGS. 2b and 2c) making the sighting member 4 integral with the mobile platform of the rapid mobile table 32, the wiring head 30 being retracted from the line of sight zz 'of the sighting member 4, this line of sight zz' then being exactly merged, by adjustment, with the position previously occupied by the axis of the wiring head 30.

After the programming phase (see FIG. 2a), the bolt 70 is released from the keeper 3 200, and the support 3 of the wiring head is brought back by means of a return spring 312 to its defined working position. in rotation by a stop 3 201, shown in FIG. 2c, the longitudinal axis of the wiring head, when the end of the latter is in contact with the work plane xy, being at rest coincident with the axis zz ' of the line of sight. The bolt 70 of the fixing means 7 comprises, in its part opposite the keeper, a magnetic suction cup 72 making it possible, as shown in FIG. 2a, to make the aiming member fixed and integral with the frame 100 of the welding machine during the phase In this position, the sighting axis zz 'of the sighting member 4 defines in the work plane xy a reference position making it possible to define the coordinates xO yO of a remarkable point of the circuit to be wired.

The programming and the storage of the remarkable points of the circuit to be wired are carried out as follows: the sighting member 4 and the mobile platform of the fast moving table 32 being materially integral, the wiring head being retracted, the flat -form of the movable table 32 carrying the wiring head is controlled from a manual remote control system, the aiming axis zz 'of the aiming member 4 being moved by an operator point by point on the points of the circuit to be wired along the path to be reproduced by the wiring head. Simultaneously, the coordinates xi Yi of the points to be wired of the circuit are stored in memory for each successive position of these points. The sequential reproduction of the previous positions by sequential reading of the values of the coordinates stored in memory allows, after return of the support 3, the wiring head 30 being in its working position, the successive positioning of the wiring head at the chosen coordinate points.

According to a particular embodiment of the invention, the rest position of the aiming axis zz 'of the aiming member 4, that is to say the position of this aiming axis when the aiming member 4 is fixed and made integral with the frame 100 of the wiring machine by means of the fixing means 7, makes it possible to define at the work plane xy a reference position. This reference position makes it possible in particular to define the coordinates xr yr of a remarkable point of the circuit with respect to this reference position. The xr and yr coordinates thus defined make it possible to globally correct the position of the n weld points of coordinates xi y. to perform
on the circuit as a function of the actual position of the circuit relative to this reference position.

Thus, a faulty positioning of one or more circuits on the strip can be corrected by simple translation of the set of coordinates xi y. points to wire. Indeed, the circuits to be wired such as, for example, the integrated circuit pads are soldered on the belt playing the role of conveyor belt. These circuits are oriented in a determined direction with a tolerance of + 10 with respect to this direction thus allowing correction by simple translation, the angular orientation of the circuits or of the pads of the integrated circuits being considered invariant.

In the device according to the invention thus described, the mobile tables and the tables with crossed movements will not be described in detail, these devices being considered to be well known to those skilled in the art. In all of Figures 1, 2a and 2b, the devices have been simply represented by two superimposed plates respectively movable in x and in y in the directions of the work plane xy relative to a fixed support respectively denoted 50 for the table crossed movements 5, and 321 for the fast movable table 32 and both integral with the frame of the machine 100. For a more detailed description of the movable tables, refer to French patent application No. 69.91076, published under No. 2,034 408.

According to FIG. 3, the mobile-rapid table allowing the displacement of the wiring head comprises two position control chains in the directions x and y of the mobile plate with respect to the reference of the work plane x, y. The two servo chains in x and y allow, from the storage of successive positions of the axis zz 'of the sighting member 4 and the -longitudinal axis of the wiring head, the sequential reproduction of these positions, According to FIG. 3, each control chain in x and y respectively comprises a central memory 80 receiving the programming and position information, that is to say the information relating to the xy coordinates stored in memory of a potentiometer
ii of remote control 81 via an analog-to-digital converter 82. A reset circuit makes it possible to define one of the coordinates x or yO origin of the work plane considered. Automatic reading means 83 of the central memory allow tent by an output 830 a sequential reading of the information programmed and stored in the central memory 80. These automatic reading means are for example constituted by a pulse generator delivering on the output 830 a series of pulses of a determined period allowing the reading of the memory. The automatic reading means also include a second output 831 allowing, from the pulses delivered by the pulse generator, the control of the movement of the wiring head in a plane perpendicular to the xy plane. The control of this movement of the wiring head is carried out sequentially according to a determined sequence allowing in particular the contact of the end of the wiring head and in particular of the connection wire at the point
Xi Yi determined and the soldering of this connection wire at this point. Removal of the wiring head, the connection wire remaining soldered at the points of coordinates xi Yi, and the displacement of this wiring head towards a point of coordinates Xi + 1 yi + 1 make it possible to renew the operation of contacting the wiring head with this new point and the connection of points xi, Yi, Xi + 1 Yi + 1 Preferably, the central memory 80 is constituted by any digital memory random access (commonly referred to as RAM).

The servo-control chain according to FIG. 3 also includes an analog adder 85 receiving from the central memory 80 the information programmed via a digital analog converter 84 (if the values xr, yr are available in digital form the adder 85 is digital and must therefore be placed upstream of the digital to analog converter 84). The analog adder 85 is conventionally constituted by a summator with several inputs. In particular, the analog adder 85 has a fixed value correction input 851 and an input of the x coordinates. or y. 852. Entrance
ii of correction in fixed value 851 allows, as previously specified, the correction by simple translation of the value xr or yr of the coordinates xi or yi, the entry of the coordinates x. or y. taking place on
ii the input 852. The analog adder 85 delivers an output signal proportional to the value of the x coordinate. corrected by the fixed correction value Xr or Yr. A servo amplifier 86 receives on a first positive input the signal delivered by the output 853 of the analog adder and on a second negative input a signal representative of the real position in the direction x or y considered from a determined point xi y. of the work plan
ii with respect to the reference frame xo, yo. The servo amplifier 86 delivers a control voltage to a servo motor 87 enabling the working plane of the movable table of the fast moving table 32 secured to the wiring head to be moved in the x direction or the y direction. by support 3.

The signal representative of the actual position in the direction x or y considered of the longitudinal axis of the wiring head is given for example by a position sensor 88 suitably calibrated taking into account the relative arrangement of the wiring head 30, of the support of the wiring head 3 and of the movable plate of the rapid movable table 32 relative to the work plane and to the fixed mark of this work plane. By way of nonlimiting example, the position sensor 88 is constituted by a linear potentiometer secured to the movable plate of the fast moving table.

According to Figure 4, the sighting member 4 for defining the fixed reference in the work plan comprises, by way of nonlimiting example, a closed circuit television system. To this end, the sighting member 4 includes an optic 41 and a television camera 42 secured to the mobile table with crossed movements 5. In FIG. 4, the dotted lines arrowed between the mobile table with crossed movements 5 and the optical 41 on the one hand and the television camera 42 represent the mechanical connection between these elements.

The sighting member also comprises a reticle generator 43 making it possible in particular to define the fixed reference mark on the work surface xy. The reticle generator 43 makes it possible to superimpose on the television image the intersection of two straight lines representing the direction of the axis zz 'of the sighting member.

The sighting unit also comprises an image monitor 44 receiving the signals representative of the image delivered by the television camera and the signals delivered by the reticle generator 43. The image monitor comprises, for example, a screen television allowing the control, by an operator, of the position of the image of the work plan with respect to the fixed reference mark materialized by the reticle. According to FIG. 4, the cross-motion table 5 and the fast movable table 32 have been shown to be joined by the fixing means 7, the machine being assumed in the programming phase. The manual remote control potentiometers denoted 81x and 81y in FIG. 4 act via the circuit described above (FIG. 3) on servo motors 87x and 87y corresponding to the servo motor 87 of the servo chains at x and at y represented in FIG. 3. The servo motors 87x and 87y cause the movable platform of the movable table 32 to move and jointly of the movable platform of the movable table with crossed movements 5 and the aiming axis zz 'of the optics 41 and the camera television 42 rendered in solidarity with the latter.

At the start of the wiring phase of each part, that is to say after the programming phase, carried out on the first part, the aiming member develops, by means of an image analysis device not described. here, the xr, yr coordinates of a remarkable point on the circuit relative to a reference position. These coordinates introduced in analog form on the inputs 851x and 851y of the control circuits determine the overall correction of the position of the weld points x. y. on the circuit.

i i
ii
A point-to-point cabling machine has thus been described in which the minimum mass added to the fast moving table during the working phase allows very high displacement speeds without the use of costly servomechanisms or generation of significant mechanical vibrations. In addition, the magazines for pieces to be cabled constituted by the rolls of tape arranged at the inlet -and at the outlet of the machine are fixed and their capacity is not limited.

A single sighting optical system is used to perform the functions of. aimed during the programming and automatic measurement phase of the position of the parts to be welded. This optical system is both removed from mechanical vibrations and easily adjustable in position. Automatic centering is carried out by an automatic measurement of the position of the parts to be wired, introducing a correction in the digital control of the table and not a movement of the latter and therefore requires a minimum of time.

Programming is done automatically when the trajectory to be reproduced is described point by point during the manual remote control. It is therefore not necessary to create a program in digital form or using any language. The positions occupied by the mobile table supporting the wiring head during the programming and working phases are the same except for small amplitude corrections made by automatic centering.

In the case where the correction by fixed value xr y is zero, the position reproducibility is excellent because it is not affected by the non-linearities of the analog-digital and analog-digital converters, of the position sensors, and of the servo amplifiers. When the corrections in fixed value xr y r are small, this reproducibility is preserved at the first order. This machine structure can be extended to other types of machine tools, other than point-to-point cabling machines and in particular to self-programming machining machines.
