Abstract

The safety device protects chains from overloading, particularly in slings and other lifting equipment. It comprises a safety component (1) so mounted on a chain link (3) that, in the event of the test load being exceeded, it distorts or shears. In the case of a round-link chain, the component can form a cross-member, bearing at the ends against the rounded surfaces of the link in a direction at right angles to that of the load. Its end faces can be wedge-shaped, being spread apart by overloading, and it can be in two identical parallel halves joined together.
