Abstract

In a process for applying a decorative motif to panels, the panel is coated with a coloured material, then a decolourising agent is applied locally and lines of force are applied whilst the decolourisation reaction takes place. The lines of force are introduced eg by inclining the panel to cause the colourant to flow downwards across the surface, or by movement of the panel during the process. If desired, part of the surface of the panel can be masked off. The process gives a decorative marbled effect to the surface of the panel.
