Abstract

The power available for distribution is divided between that on hand for priority appliances which may need to be switched on at any time and those, such as heaters (10), which may be fed periodically by external switching control. The system prevents overload by the uncoordinated simultaneous extra power consumption of the latter. A transformer power meter (4) provides a signal enabling the total actual network consumption to be compared with the potential and actual maximum non-priority consumption which may be altered at user level. Logic circuitry in a distributor unit (7) provides a clock signal which commands the cyclical connection, according to power available, of non-priority devices to the supply via relays (9) in a preset sequence. The relays operate using optically coupled photothyristors and series triacs.
