Abstract

The plastics envelope for preserving food under vacuum is welded along three edges, with an open mouth for insertion of the food. The remaining edge is then hot welded to seal the open mouth. All air trapped inside can then be pumped through a valve integral with the rear panel of the bag. Down the inside of the front panel is a rib of material which also melts when heated, so that it does not interrupt the formation of the weld along the top edge. This rib then forms a spacer inside the envelope which ensures that all air is extracted from the interior when the valve is connected to a suction source.
