Abstract
L'invention concerne une dispositif introduisant un retard de polarisation, particulièrement adapté à une utilisation dans un laser à miroirs actifs. Le laser comporte une substance à effet laser 12 dans laquelle arrive un faisceau 24 linéairement polarisé. Sur une face 16 de la substance 12, est placé un dispositif semi-transparent 22. Ce dernier est formé d'un polariseur 28 qui réfléchit la composante s de polarisation Rs et transmet la composante p de polarisation T p du faisceau incident, d'un réflecteur 32 qui réfléchit la composante p qui lui est transmise, et d'une couche d'ajustement de phase disposée entre le polariseur et le réflecteur qui permet un ajustement du déphasage entre les composantes p et s une fois celles-ci revenues dans la substance 12, le déphasage étant tel que le faisceau réfléchi est polarisé dans une direction sensiblement orthogonale à celle du faisceau incident. Le dispositif de l'invention permet d'éliminer les effets de diffraction non linéaires et donc d'augmenter la densité d'énergie que la substance laser est susceptible de supporter.
