Abstract

The novel prepn. of alkyl halo-aromatic cpds. comprises reacting a mono- or poly halo- substd. 6-20C aromatic cpd. with an iso-paraffinic 4-30C hydrocarbon or 3-12C naphthenic hydrocarbon at 20-100 degrees C pref. 40-70 degrees C, in the presence of a Friedel-Crafts catalyst and a prim. sec. or tert. 3-10C chloroalkyl cpd. 0.1-10 mol, pref. 0.4-2 mol naphthenic or isoparaffinic hydrocarbon and 0.1-2 mol. pref. 0.2-1 mol. chloroalkyl cpd. are used per mol. halo-aromatic cpd. pref. chlorinated brominated or iodinated benzene toluene phenol or biphenyl, chlorobenzene being pref. Used as dielectrics or cutting or working oils.
