Abstract

The equipment fills crates with items liable to bruising such as fruit, having a water tank in which the crate is immersed, and to which a water-filled basin is connected. Sorting channels, also water-filled, are connected to the basin, and in these the items, sorted according to size and/or weight, float. A water current towards the tank is maintained. The items are delivered from one or more channels to the tank and shut the remainder off. T'e downstream delivery is situated between the basin (7) and tank (8). Removable shutters (14) are at or near the ends of the channels and discharge into the basin. A positively--driven conveyor can deliver the items from the basin to the free surface of the liq. contained in a casing (10), placed during filling on the completely immersed crate.
