Abstract

The rope tensioning mechanism has a fixed pulley in a rigid frame, and also a pully movable to the same frame, a hydraulic ram acting on its spingle and connected to the oil chamber of a hydraulic accumulator. The rope reeved round the pulleys is held taut by the movement of the second pulley under the action of the ram in opposition to the force exerted by the rope. The pulley spindle is mounted on an arm at one end of it, the other end pivoting on the frame, and the ram is coupled between arm and frame by further pivot pins. These pins are parallel to the arm pivot pin and the spindles of both fixed and moving pulleys and the ram is coupled to the arm at a point between its pivot pin and the pulley spindle.
