Abstract

Continuous casting furnace for alloys susceptible to oxidn., esp. alloys based on copper or Cu-Zn. The furnace has a body with an inlet duct for molten metal, and the duct leads to a channel ending below the molten metal in the furance. The duct can be attached to the furnace body via a flange fitted with an induction heater. The inlet duct pref. resembles a spout and is tilted with the furnace, e.g. for dross removal, the furnace body being fitted with a tilting mechanism. Several inlet ducts are pref. located round the furnace body. Metal flows quietly from the heated duct into the furnace without anyd ross; and the level of the melt in the furnace and an adjacent tundish is controlled by inert gas.
