Abstract

Developer compsn. for electrostatic images comprises a mixt. of (1) support particles of an aluminium (alloy) which are surface oxidised; and (2) toner particles consisting of (a) a pigment and (b) a binder comprising one or more polyester resins derived from (i) fumaric acid or a mixt. of fumaric acid and isophthalic acid contg. >=95 mol. % fumaric acid and (ii) a mixt. of propoxylated bisphenol polyols of formula (I): -CH(CH3)-O-)m-H (I) in which m and n are whole numbers and m+n = 2-7, the polyester being made using an amt. of acid and polyol such that the ratio COOH gp./OH gp. = 1.2-0.8:1. Pref. the propoxylated nisphenol is a reaction prod. of 2-3 moles propylene oxide with 1 mole 2,2-bis-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-propane. The polyester binder pref. has an acid value is not >20. The pigment is pref. fumed carbon black, used e.g. at 5-20 wt. % on the total wt. of the toner. The developer compsn. gives optimum deposition of toner onto the latent electrostatic image and give high density images using the cascade development system.
