Abstract
A solar combustion furnace incorporates a solar reaction chamber, controlled inlets for chlorine and hydrogen, appts. for introducing electro-magnetic radiation, partic. solar radiation, into the chamber to ionise the Cl2 and H2, and a combustion chamber. A valve allows controlled entry of oxygen into the combustion chamber. The ionised cl2 and H2 pass through a valve into the combustion chamber and react exothermally producing HCl at high temp. and press. The furnace incorporates components to concentrate the radiation, direct it into the reaction chamber and disperse it over the whole chamber. The energy produced in the reaction may be used to generate steam or to drive a turbine or a piston engine. The combustion products can be put into a circuit so as to maintain permanently the exothermic reaction.
