Abstract

An emergency or auxiliary power source, is particularly intended for vehicles which are raised off their running tracks, by magnetic repulsion. Energy is stored in a flywheel and can be released when the power is interrupted either momentarily or for a short period. Power picked up from a monophase overhead rail is converted by an oscillator working at 400 Hz into a three phase supply feeding a motor-compressor and auxiliary services and a reversible motor-generator. The motor-generator spins up the flywheel which acts as an energy source during supply interruptions to provide a three phase output.
