Abstract

Decorative effects can be produced from synthetic material reproducing natural prods., e.g. plants, vegetables, fruits, crustaceans etc. Synthetic material supports are given satin like finishes by surface attack with conc. sulphochromic-type soln. then rendered conducting by coating with a glaze contg. fine conductive particles of Ag, Cu, Zn, Al or C. The support is reinforced with a layer of chromically deposited Ni or Cu and finally coated by electroplating with >=1 deposit of Cu, Ni, Cr, Ag or Zn of which the surface can be modified using a dichromate bath for instance.
