Abstract

The floating wheel eliminates the need for separate suspension for heavy vehicles and has a central hub (1), and wheel rim (2), and a rubber cushion (3) between hub and rim. The inside surfaces of the hub (1d) and rim (2d) have V-notches to transmit torque through the rubber. Vertical forces are transmitted by the inside face of the rim flange (2b) and the horizontal face of the hub (1b) and are damped by the cushion. Lateral forces are transmitted by circular rubber rings resting between the inside surface of the hub and plate (1a) and the vertical surface of the rim (2). The hub spins freely on the axle (4), supported by two roller bearings (5).
