Abstract
The discharge control for molten metal in a ladle by mechanical, pneumatic, electric or electronic actuation uses a mushroom-shaped stopper which is lifted upwards off a seat at the bottom of the ladle. The stopper has radial holes which communicate with a radial bore in its lower part. When the stopper is lifted within a refractory sleeve, the radial holes allow the molten metal to pour out. The actuating mechanism is entirely outside the ladle so that the system is suitable for very high temps. The rate of discharge can be controlled to a fine degree.
