Abstract

Flexible luminescent film which has the characteristic of transmitting visible light from one face when the opposite face is irradiated e.g. by uv, is made from a dispersion of luminescent powder in a binder. Pref. the powder is of mineral origin esp. mixed (Zn, Cd)S activated by Ag and/or organic/pigments. The binder is a neutral filmogenic soln. (neither acid nor alkaline), forming films transparent to visible and uv. radiation, and insol., in aqs. polyvinyl acetate soln or cellulose acetate in methyl ethyl ketone. The films are used in emission devices for interior displays, luminous articles of furniture, information strips etc., and are simple and economical to produce as uniform prods. of constant characteristics.
