Abstract

The control system is for a peristaltic-type blood infusion pump. The pump operates intermittently, and the frequency of the operating periods and the speed during these periods are regulated by one or more of the patient's blood pressures, infusion being inhibited when the pressure exceeds a predetermined limit. Regulation can be by the systolic arterial pressure and the central veinous pressure, infusion taking place when the values of these two pressures are simultaneously below calibrated figures. The output of the pump during an operating period can be proportional to the mean value of the discrepancy between the pressure measured and the calibrated figure.
