Abstract

Equipment for capping and isolating thermoformed containers is described. Two independent drive systems are used to advance the web of containers and the capping film to a combined heat sealing and cutting unit. successive containers and (selected) portions of cover film are stopped in superimposed positions, clamped but sepd. vertically. A jack severs and lifts the container plus a peripheral flange which is then welded to the cover film. The sealed pack is then punched out downwards severing the cover film border and isolating the pack. Used esp. for sealing packs with preprinted covers designs to be precisely located on top of the pack. Alignment problems and cycle times are reduced by combining the welding and cutting operations at one unit station.
