Abstract

The single-wheeled horse-drawn carriage is designed for racing. The rider is seated in a position similar to that adopted when riding a horse. The carriage has an inverted U-shaped shell, the rounded part of which forms a seat. The wheel axle passes through the sides of the U and the wheel is positioned between them. A pair of shafts extends forwards from the front of the car. The knees of the rider are supported by the portion of the shell imediately behind its junction with the shafts. In addition to control by the reins, certain amount of control can be exerted by the knees through the shell and shafts. An outrigger wheel can be attached each side of the main wheel.
