Abstract
A head for a serial printing device and its operating mechanism, suitable for fast serial output from a data processing system is described. The printer produces a higher quality output with a simpler mechanism. The head itself consists of eight segments in a nesting arrangement, each capable of printing a letter segment, for example a straight line, a cruve, or a dot. Each segment is activated by a drive wire behind it, which in turn is actuated by a hammer arrangement attached to an electromagnet. The whole arrangement can be turned by a motor so that the various segments have eight positions in which each can be actuated.
