Air treatment gel comprises an air treating agent e.g. a deodorant or a perfume, and a gelling agent comprising the reactn. prod. of a water soluble cellulose deriv. (I) and a metal salt (II). (I) is pref. a carboxymethyl cellulose salt and (II) a trivalent metal salt. Prodn. of air purificn of freshener. The gelling agent is readily prepd. from readily available starting prods. and its prepn. does not involve heating. (I) is pref. Na carboxymethyl cellulose and (II) is basic aluminium acetate (CH2COO)4 OAl2. 4H2O .
