Abstract

Connector for joining optical fibres by leading the opposing ends of two fibres into opposite ends of a cylindrical casing. The casing is fitted with a pair of coaxially aligned collars linked by an annular array of smooth, flexible wires. Relative rotation of the collars contracts the wires by twisting, thus automatically centring and aligning the fibre ends loaded within the wires. Use of couplings involving several pairs of rotary clamps for aligning optical fibre links for a remote display panel. The twisted wire clamp is self-centring, makes smooth and progressive contact with the outside of the fibres.
