Abstract
A heat exchanger, comprising headers interconnected by ducts, has the ducts formed as an extrusion of highly crystalline polyolefin, such as is produced by using transition metal polymerisation catalysts. A pref. arrangement for the extrusion comprises top and bottom sheets or plates, with transverse interconnecting walls forming approximately square, parallel ducts adjoining one another, one or both of the plates being pref. 0.35 - 1.40 mm thick. Pref. the ducts and also the headers are of propylene homopolymer or a copolymer of this contg. up to 15(6-10)% by weight ethylene. The heat exchanger is useful for a solar heat collector, where heat-removing water flows through the ducts. The highly crystalline polyolefin possess sufficient strength to prevent bursting, esp. if the water boils due to a failure in circulation. The cellular sheet is cheap to manufacture.
