Abstract

Specific electrodes for detection or measurement of electrochemical or ionic phenomenon comprises a sensitive membrane formed from insol., (non)stoichiometric cpds. pure or in a matrix or with an additive, and which contains a constituent selected from (1) a quat. cpd. in the structural sense, i.e. elements occupying 4 different crystallographic sites) contg. at least one of S, Se, Te, opt. mixed with other bodies, (2) a ternary cpd. contg. S, Se and/or Te but not simultaneously Cu and Ag, (3) a ternary cpd. contg. S, Se and/or Te and Cu and Ag, the cpd. being miscible with one or more other bodies. Increased sensitivity to the specific ions, physical, chemical, electrical and electrochemical homogeneity can be obtd. The electrodes show rapid response, stability and continuity of performance, very low solubility products with the sensitive elements, low tendency to oxidation of the membrane, low sensitivity to interference from other species, low electrical resistivity and insensibility to photochemical and photoelectric effects.
