Abstract

A surface cleaning method for removing strongly caked-on foreign matter from pipes, drains, ships hulls or ships' holds etc., uses a high speed jet of fluid material using a laminar flow technique without turbulence or sonic or ultrasonic vibrations, using solely the kinetic energy of the flow, which is discharged at a pressure of more than 500 bars, preferably of 1000 bars, so that millions of micro bubbles which break up and remove the contaminating foreign matter, which falls down or is carried away by the flow. This fluid jet may be water, air or shot with a heavy suspension of e.g. baryta. The jet can then be moved backwards and forwards to finish off the process.
