Abstract

The striker has an enlarged head which co-operates with a forward part of the striker housing to define a buffer chamber in which gases are compressed during the working stroke so as to move the striker through a return stroke. At the rear end of the housing is the ported sleeve into which the rear part of the striker moves to define a combustion chamber in which fuel, supplied through a nozzle is compressed to ignition point. The sleeve has fuel inlet and exhaust gas outlet ports and longitudinal slots for conducting the various fluids between inlet and outlet apertures and the buffer chamber.
