Abstract

The base plate is made of conducting material and the support is electrically insulated from it; or alternatively, the support may be made of insulating material. The support is rod shaped and has cooling ribs on its surface. Alternatively it may be a screw provided with a thread on at least a part of its length. The cooling ribs may be produced with grooves parallel or perpendicular to the support axis. The heating elements may consist of thin metal foil or small scale expanded metal, giving a big surface area for heat transfer to the surrounding air and giving sufficient electric resistance per unit length.
