Abstract

Successive emission from a laser of beams of coherent light of adjustable wavelength and duration comprises (a) interposing >=1 lamina in the path of the beam in the laser resonance cavity, designed to split the beam into at least two branches; (b) selecting by means of selector elements placed in >=1 branch of the beam, the resonating wave lengths of the laser cavity corresp. to the branches; (c) interrupting the path of light in a certain number of branches of the laser beam thus using the emission of successive pulses of coherent light, the wave lengths selected by the selector elements corresponding to the branches of the laser beam, the duration of each pulse being more or less equal to the time for which the path of the light in the two arms of the beam is not interrupted. Method permits a laser to emit successively beams of coherent light of different wave length at least for adjustable periods, the selection of wave lengths being made very simply without the need for optical systems which are difficult to regulate.
