Abstract

The D.C. motor, having a simple structure, is intended for low power applications particularly where the power source is a battery, with the aim of increasing the life of such batteries. The necessity for an armature is removed by having the rotor external to the wound stator, the rotor being bipolar with the north and south halves being separated by longitudinal gaps. Such a motor having a single centre-tapped stator winding has two stable positions, the position of these being changed through a transistor circuit having as its sensing element a hall effect probe positioned in the stator winding space. To reduce the field reaction the motor-stator space is shaped to give a non-linear reluctance.
