Abstract
The drive from the outer clutch plate (18') is taken through the springs (20A), (20B) and (20C). The two springs (20A) are diametrically opposite and are deflected when any torque is transmitted. The two springs (20B) are compressed once the torque transmitter has overcome the springs (20A). Finally at maximum torque the four springs (20C) are compressed. This successive engagement of the springs produces a non-linear relationship between torque and angular deflection, so preventing the build up of torsional oscillations. Drive is transmitted to the hub (10) by spring loaded discs until the deflection is sufficient to engage the teeth (12) so that friction damping is provided over the small angular deflection produced by low torque.
