Abstract

Synthetic leather comprisea a layer of cloth coated with a flexible film incorporating pieces of an incompatible material which initiate interfacial fissures in response to cyclic thermal and or mechanical treatment. Matrix layer of flexible PVC should contain small pieces of polyethylene fibres, film, chips or pellets. The resin mixture may be sprayed on to a support cloth lining a mould cavity, subjected to preferential heating of the matrix. i.e. by induction heating, and pref. subsequently coated with a polyurethane to obtain an improved feel. Suitable for stock sheet or shaped mouldings for e.g. shoes, gloves or other leather work. Intersecting fissures proudce transverse passages porous to air but not to water. Uniform stock sheet readily produced continuously using relatively low priced starting materials.
