1429574 Two-part couplings SOC D'- EXPLOITATION DES PROCEDES MARECHAL 28 Dec 1973 [29 Dec 1972] 59952/73 Heading H2E A multiple electric socket 21 and plug 22 comprise metal casings 16, 7 with a bayonet type coupling enclosing insulating supports 4, 8 each capable of being located in any one of 360/α different angular positions relative to its casing by pegs 17a, 17b, 18a, 18b on the casings engaging peripheral grooves in the supports, α being equal to 15, 18 or 22¢ degrees (15 degrees as shown), each position corresponding to a given voltage supply, the socket having a safety disc 23 which covers the contacts 1, 2, 3, N when the plug is disengaged and the distribution of sockets and apertures in the safety disc being such that a plug can be inserted only if it is the correct plug for that socket. In use, the safety disc 23 is initially locked in position by a claw 26 on a washer 27, the washer having tongues sliding in grooves 29a, 29b in the support 4 to allow the washer to be depressed by the rim 20 of the plug to disengage the claw during the insertion of the plug pins 9 into apertures in the disc 23, allowing the disc to rotate with the plug through 37¢ degrees to align the pins and sockets prior to the final insertion movement. The disc 23 is retained by the head of the earth contact 6 about which it rotates and is provided with six shrouded cavities such as 25a, 25b in its perimeter, one of these being broken through at the time of installation by the locking claw 26 to allow reinstallation in only one possible position after dismantling. When all four sockets 1, 2, 3, N are in use the final position of the disc 23 relative to the support 4 is as shown in Figs. 2 and 3, the claw 26 being initially locked in the cavity 25a, while anticlockwise rotation of the initial position of the disc 23 through α, 90 or 180+α, 90 + α, 180 or 270 degrees allows the use of sockets 1 and 2; N and 1; N, 1 and 2; 1, 2 and 3 or N, 2 and 3 respectively. The socket carries a hinged cap 11 which can be locked in the closed position by a latch 13 when the plug is removed.
