Abstract

A shuttle is picked across a loom whilst supported pref. on a track and is driven by contact with a belt driven roller train above the track. The rollers adjacent the edge of the loom act as braking rollers and are carried on pref. a common support bar pref. spring biassed towards the track whereby as the shuttle passes through the nip between a braking roller and the track, the roller is forced against the spring biassing away from the track to an active position in which the roller is separated from the track by a distance at most equal to the height of the shuttle. The braking rollers decelerate the speed of the shuttle to zero. The support bar may be parallel with the track and the dia. of the braking rollers may increase in the advance direction of the shuttle or the support bar may be inclined to the track in the advance direction of the shuttle and the braking rollers may be of equal dia. The track may be replaced by a roller train.
