Abstract
Thick rubber discs with a coaxial passage have a female seat in one end and a correspondingly sized wall o.d. at the other end to allow stacking, and one or both of the opposing outer surfaces of two adjacent stacked discs diverge but can deform to provide progressively increasing support areas in compression. Pref. the stacking faces also have concave surfaces for further progressive contact. Pref. the discs have a cellular elastic structure of e.g. polyurethane. May be used along or within or around a helical metal spring to modify the compressive characteristics of the latter, viz to progressively enhance the modulus above any pre-load determined by the difference in length between the metal and rubber springs.
