Abstract

Modified polyester resins are obtd. by reacting (A) is not 1 satd. polyester, with acid no 5 and OH no. 20-90, based on poly- (di-) aromatic carboxylic acids, opt. partly replaced by 2-20C satd. dicarboxylic acids, and poly-alcohols, with (B) >1 polyisocyanate; the ratio of OH gps. in (A) : NCO gps. in (B) is >2:1. Used for weldable coatings on metal substrates, esp. steel and zinc-treated sheets. Electric welding of the coated metals is claimed. The lacquers do not carbonise at the point of welding, but flow thermoplastically. The weld spots are enveloped by a thick layer of lacquer, which gives protection against corrosion. The modified polyesters have good resistance to weathering.
