Abstract

Parent patent describes construction of a mixing and metering pump incorporating a chicane type mixing rotor and side chambers with membranes moving with adjustable strokes to inhale and discharge controlled quantities of independent feedstock streams of resin forming liquids or suspensions, esp. for polyurethane compositions. By this addition, the shape of the diaphragms and the chambers they move in is adapted to allow the chambers to be virtually completely emptied by the exhaust stroke of the piston behind the membrane. Pref. each membrane can retract or extend to a hemispherical shape and the corresp. chamber is spherical with a similar radius to the extended membrane. Eliminates stagnant reagent zones in the membrane chambers. Does not involve any sliding or rolling movement of the membrane along the chamber walls, thus reducing rate of membrane wear.
