Abstract

Lids for closing tubs or similar thin wall containers are made of a composite sheet incorporating a thin Al foil and two layers of oriented plastic film overlaid so that the orientation axes are approx. at right angles to one another. Pref. the oriented layers are of high density polyethylene bonded together by low density polyethylene, to the Al foil by an e.g. polyurethane, adhesive and to the container by a heat activated or hot melt adhesive. Esp. suitable for packaging dairy products, jams, etc. The composite films have a higher specific strength and tear resistance than covers made of adhesive coated metal foil.
