Abstract

The shafting of a bore-hole drill is lifted into posn. automatically aligned, and screw coupled without manual intervention, thereby economising on the cost of automatic dispersing appts. The need for a square ended driving head is avoided. Each section of shaft is introduced horizontally into a swinging collar, aid fixed by a forked keying piece, then lifted to a vertical posn. above borehole, by raising the drive shaft, which supports the swing collar, and screwed home into recessed top of preceding shaft section by rotating drive shaft. When the drive shaft is lowered, it automatically disengages from swinging collar support, and may be screwed into recessed top at the introduced shaft. After insertion of each section, drive shaft is counter-rotated to unscrew, and forked key is removed, ready for continuation of process. Shaft sections may be dismantled by a reverse process with each section raised clear of borehole, so that lower section may be locked against unscrewing counter-rotation.
