Abstract

Herbicidal emulsions for treating railway track ballast etc. contain bitumen in water, a nonionic surfactant, and a herbicide. These compsns. are not washed out by rain, and do not effect the rapid draining of the ballast. In an example 50 parts 180/220 bitumen was heated to 120 degrees C and treated with 12.5 parts of an ethylene oxide (30 mols.) - castor oil condensate; mixture was cooled to 70 degrees C and 36.5 parts water added. 0.29 Parts 3-amino 1,2,4-triazole, 0.57 parts 2-chloro 4,6-bis-(ethyleneamino) s-triazine and 0.14 parts 2-chloro-4-ethylamino-6-isopropylamino s-triazine were added. This emulsion (40 parts) was diluted with 60 parts water before application.
