Abstract

The compressor includes a hermetically sealed housing with a crankshaft carrying a piston which reciprocates in the cylinder. The crank has a pump connected at its base, in the sump, for pumping lubricant upwardly through a crankshaft passage. An elongate hollow tube is connected to this lubricant passage, to throw oil outwardly as the crankshaft rotates. A lubricant deflector projecting from the cylinder head deflects the slung oil over the exterior surfaces to conduct heat away. - The oil flow is sufficient to prevent excessive head temp. and consequent carbon formation, which would affect the bearing surfaces. The head projection comprises a flange with openings for fluid flow. The crankshaft of the unit is pref. of vertical type.
