Abstract
A natural hydrocarbon gas mixture liquefaction process including separation of heavy hydrocarbons comprises compressing at 5 the feed gas in a line 4, cooling it to effect partial liquefaction in a heat exchanger 8, separating the C 2 plus liquid fraction at 10, withdrawing it through a line -11, expanding a major portion at a valve 12 and using it as a refrigerant in exchanger 8 and returning it to the compressor inlet, withdrawing the gaseous fraction from separator 10 through a line 27, cooling it to effect partial liquefaction in a heat exchanger 16, separating the liquid fraction at 21, withdrawing it through a line 22 and after cooling the withdrawn liquid fraction in heat exchangers 18, 19 expanding it at a valve 23 and using it as refrigerant to cool exchangers 18, 19 after which it is added to a minor portion of the liquid fraction withdrawn from line 11 and expanded at 15 and passing the combined streams through exchanger 16, 18 to the compressor inlet, and finally withdrawing the gas fraction from separator 21 and completely liquefying its passage through exchangers 18, 19. As shown the gas fraction withdrawn from separator 21 is partially liquefied in exchanger 18 and is separated at 26 into nitrogen-poor liquid and nitrogen-rich gas which latter is liquefied in exchanger 19, and the two liquids are then expanded at valves 31, 32 respectively into rectification column 30 from which product liquid is withdrawn through a line 33, and a small portion of heavy liquefied hydrocarbons in line 11 is expanded through a valve 35 and added to the line 33, thereby adding heavy hydrocarbons to the liquid gas mixture prior to its passage to a storage reservoir 39.
