Abstract

Hydraulic rudder-actuating gear comprises two arcuate -pistons 5, 6, pivoted to a tiller arm 8 and slidable in respective arcuate cylinders 1, 2, the pistons and cylinder axes being centred on the axis of rotation of the tiller arm. The pistons have adjacent forked ends pivoted to arm 8 by a pin 7. A guide 11 extending between the cylinders carries blocks 12 guiding the pistons. Hydraulic fluid is directed by an electric pump to and from the respective cylinders to move the pistons. A plate (10, Fig. 3, not shown) connecting the cylinders journals the end of the rudder shaft (9).
