Un procedimiento de detección y/u obtención de imágenes de ARNm empleando nanopartículas que comprenden un núcleo que incluye átomos metálicos y/o semiconductores, en donde el núcleo está ligado covalentemente a una pluralidad de ligandos que comprenden: (i) al menos un ligando de ARN que comprende (a) una molécula de ARNip o de miARN de entre 17 y 30 ribonucleótidos de longitud; y (ii) un ligando que comprende un grupo de hidrato de carbono, en donde el procedimiento comprende poner en contacto las nanopartículas con una muestra o células que contienen ARNm diana en condiciones en las que los ligandos de ARN presentes en las nanopartículas sean capaces de interaccionar con ARNm diana y detectar el complejo nanopartícula-ARN-ARNm, y en donde el núcleo de la nanopartícula tiene un diámetro medio entre 0,5 y 10 nm.A method of detecting and / or obtaining mRNA images using nanoparticles comprising a core that includes metal atoms and / or semiconductors, wherein the core is covalently linked to a plurality of ligands comprising: (i) at least one ligand of RNA comprising (a) an siRNA or miRNA molecule between 17 and 30 ribonucleotides in length; and (ii) a ligand comprising a carbohydrate group, wherein the method comprises contacting the nanoparticles with a sample or cells containing target mRNA under conditions where the RNA ligands present in the nanoparticles are capable of interact with target mRNA and detect the nanoparticle-RNA-mRNA complex, and where the core of the nanoparticle has an average diameter between 0.5 and 10 nm.
