An adjustable diaper in its contour, comprising; a fluid permeable cover sheet having at least one fold extending laterally along the cover sheet; a fluid impervious backing sheet having at least one fold extending laterally along the backing sheet; and a pair of absorbent pads located between the cover and backing sheets, each of said pads extending from the longitudinal center region of the diaper to opposite side edges of the diaper, said pad being: free from attachment to the longitudinal center region of the diaper, whereby said pads move longitudinally relative to one another and the diaper transforms from a generally flat configuration into an arcuate configuration in response to longitudinal expansion of the diaper, with the longitudinal sides of the diaper arching inward in the central region of the diaper to fit pearly to the contour of a child's body.
