Abstract

Sensor for protecting optical guides against breakages by bending, which consists of two independent moving parts, conductors of electricity, which are attached to an optical guide 9 situated along its axis of symmetry, by means of some clamps on which some screws t exert pressure, and which through bending the optical guide g above a limit angle [alpha] enter into contact and close an electrical circuit, thus supplying a signal that can activate an alarm or the safety device of a machine for protecting the guide from undesired bending. The bending limit angle [alpha] and therefore the sensitivity can be preset by the separation s between the parts and their diameter [phi]. In addition to the problem of the operatives' safety in those industrial applications in which optical guides are used for conducting laser radiation, the economic problem is solved, preventing breakage before this occurs.
