Abstract

Arrangements disclosed herein relate to systems, apparatuses, non-transitory computer-readable media, and methods for selecting, by a User Equipment (UE), one from a group of measurement reference signal resources and X measurement reference signal sources of the group of measurement reference signal resources. X is equal to 1 or greater than 1. X is less than a number of measurement reference signal resource in the group of measurement reference signal resource. The UE reports to a node the selected one from the group of measurement reference signal resources and the X measurement reference signal resources of the group of measurement reference signal resources.

Description

    SYSTEMS, METHODS, AND NON-TRANSITORY COMPUTER-READABLE MEDIA FOR CHANNEL STATE INFORMATION REPORTING TECHNICAL FIELD
  • The disclosure relates generally to wireless communications and, more particularly, to systems, methods, and non-transitory computer-readable media for channel state information reporting.
  • BACKGROUND
  • In wireless communication systems (e.g., 5G and 6G wireless communication networks) , a User Equipment (UE) can measure its channel state and report channel state information to a network.
  • SUMMARY
  • The example implementations disclosed herein are directed to solving the issues relating to one or more of the problems presented in the prior art, as well as providing additional features that will become readily apparent by reference to the following detailed description when taken in conjunction with the accompany drawings. In accordance with various implementations, example systems, methods, devices and computer program products are disclosed herein. It is understood, however, that these implementations are presented by way of example and are not limiting, and it will be apparent to those of ordinary skill in the art who read the present disclosure that various modifications to the disclosed implementations can be made while remaining within the scope of this disclosure.
  • Some arrangements of the present disclosure relate to systems, apparatuses, methods, and non-transitory computer-readable media for selecting, by a wireless communication device, one from a group of measurement reference signal resources and X measurement reference signal sources of the group of measurement reference signal resources. X is equal to 1 or greater than 1. X is less than or equal to a number of measurement reference signal resource in the group of measurement reference signal resource. The wireless communication device reports to a node the selected one from the group of measurement reference signal resources and the X measurement reference signal resources of the group of measurement reference signal resources.
  • Some arrangements of the present disclosure relate to systems, apparatuses, methods, and non-transitory computer-readable media for selecting, by a wireless communication device, a group of measurement reference signal resources in response to determining that an attribute difference of any two measurement reference signal resources in the group is less than a threshold and reporting, by the wireless communication device to a node, the selected group of measurement reference signal resources.
  • The above and other aspects and their implementations are described in greater detail in the drawings, the descriptions, and the claims.
  • The arrangements described herein allow a base station to obtain information about a type of a wireless communication device. The base station can efficiently schedule a middle node, such as a RIS, for the wireless communication device.

  • DETAILED DESCRIPTION
  • Various example implementations of the present solution are described below with reference to the accompanying figures to enable a person of ordinary skill in the art to make and use the present solution. As would be apparent to those of ordinary skill in the art, after reading the present disclosure, various changes or modifications to the examples described herein can be made without departing from the scope of the present solution. Thus, the present solution is not limited to the example implementations and applications described and illustrated herein. Additionally, the specific order or hierarchy of steps in the methods disclosed herein are merely example approaches. Based upon design preferences, the specific order or hierarchy of steps of the disclosed methods or processes can be re-arranged while remaining within the scope of the present solution. Thus, those of ordinary skill in the art will understand that the methods and  techniques disclosed herein present various steps or acts in a sample order, and the present solution is not limited to the specific order or hierarchy presented unless expressly stated otherwise.
  • In some arrangements, a UE receives a group of measurement reference signal resources such as Channel State Information Reference Signal (CSI-RS) resources (referred to as a CSI-RS resource group) from a BS. Other types of resources such as Demodulation Reference Signal (DMRS) , a synchronization signal resources, and so on can be likewise implemented. The UE can determine to report an index of the CSI-RS resource group or to report one or more CSI-RS resource (e.g., the X CSI-RS resources) indices each corresponding to a CSI-RS resource in the CSI-RS resource group. In the examples in which the UE determines to report the index of the CSI-RS resource group, the UE does not report any CSI-RS resource index corresponding to any specific CSI-RS resource in the CSI-RS resource group. In the example in which the UE determines to report the one or more CSI-RS resource indices each corresponding to a CSI-RS resource in the CSI-RS resource group, the UE does not report the index of the entire CSI-RS resource group. That is, the UE reports either the one or more CSI-RS resource indices each corresponding to a CSI-RS resource in the CSI-RS resource group or the index of the entire CSI-RS resource group. In some examples, the UE does not report both the index of the CSI-RS resource group and the one or more CSI-RS resource indices each corresponding to a CSI-RS resource in the CSI-RS resource group.
  • In some implementations, reporting the index of the group can also refer to reporting the group. The UE reports an index of the CSI-RS group among multiple CSI-RS groups in the examples in which there are multiple CSI-RS resource groups. In the examples in which there is only one group, reporting the entire group and reporting the index of the group is same. In some implementations, reporting the index of the group refers to the UE selecting all CSI-Rs resources  in the group and all CSI-RS resources satisfies a feature, such as all CSI-RS resources in the group share same quality (e.g. the attribute) . Reporting one or more CSI-RS resources in the group refers to the UE selecting partial CSI-RS resources in the group, and each of the one or more CSI-RS resources is respectively associated a quality. The UE can report the quality for each of the selected one or more CSI-RS resources. The number of the selected more CSI-RS resources in the group is X, which is less than or equal to the number of CSI-RS resources in the group.
  • Some arrangements disclosed herein relate to systems, methods, apparatuses, and non-transitory computer-readable media for selecting one of the index of the CSI-RS resource group or the one or more CSI-RS resource indices each corresponding to a CSI-RS resource in the CSI-RS resource group for reporting.
  • FIG. 1A is a process flow diagram illustrating an example method 100a for selecting one from a group of measurement reference signal resource and one or more (e.g., X) CSI-RS resource indices from the group, and reporting the selection to a node, according to various arrangements. At 110, the UE selects one from a group of measurement reference signal resources and X measurement reference signal sources of the group of measurement reference signal resources. In some examples, X is equal to 1 or greater than 1, and X is less than a number of measurement reference signal resources in the group of measurement reference signal resources. At 120, the UE reports to a node the selected one from the group of measurement reference signal resources and the X measurement reference signal resources of the group of measurement reference signal resources.
  • In some arrangements, reporting the selected one from the group of measurement reference signal resources and the X measurement reference signal resources of the group of  measurement reference signal resources includes at least one of: reporting, by the UE to the node, the group of measurement reference signal resources (the selected one is the group of measurement reference signal resource) , or reporting, by the UE, an index of each of the X measurement reference signal resources of the group of measurement reference signal resources (the selected one is the X measurement reference signal resources of the group of measurement reference signal resources) .
  • In some arrangements, the group of measurement reference signal resources and the index of each of the X measurement reference signal resources corresponds to difference values of a same reporting bits field.
  • In some arrangements, the number of bits of the one same reporting bits field or the number of bits of the reporting field is one of: ceil (log2 (M+S) ) or ceil (log2 (N+1) ) . M is a number of measurement reference signal resources of a set of measurement reference signal resources. S is a number of groups of measurement reference signal resources in the set. N is a number of measurement reference signal resources of the group of measurement reference signal resources.
  • In some arrangements, the UE reports two or more values of the same reporting field simultaneously. In some examples, either a value of the same reporting field corresponding to the group a or a value of the same reporting field corresponding to the index of the X measurement reference signal resource of the group of measurement reference signal resources is included in the two or more values.
  • In some arrangements, the group of measurement reference signal resources and the index of each of the X measurement reference signal resources corresponds to two reporting bits  fields. In some arrangements, a first bit field of the two reporting bits fields includes two values, a first value of the two values represents that the selected one is the group of measurement reference signal resources and a second value of the two values represents the selected one is the X measurement reference signal resources. In some arrangements, a second bit field of the two reporting bits fields includes X values, each of which corresponds to the index of one of the X measurement reference signal resources.
  • In some arrangements, reporting one of the index of the group of measurement reference signal resources and the index of each of the X measurement reference signal resources using one or two reporting bits field is based on at least one of a relationship between ceil (log2 (M+S) ) and ceil (log2 (M) ) , M, S, N, a relationship between ceil (log2 (M+1) ) and ceil (log2 (M) ) ; or a relationship between ceil (log2 (N+1) ) and ceil (log2 (N) ) . M is a number of measurement reference signal resources of a set of measurement reference signal resources. S is a number of groups of measurement reference signal resources included in the set. N is a number of measurement reference signal resources of the group of measurement reference signal resources.
  • In some arrangements, reporting selecting one from the group of measurement reference signal resources and the X measurement reference signal resources of the group of measurement reference signal resources according to at least one of a difference between attributes of measurement reference signal resources of the group of measurement reference signal resources, a correlation between channels of measurement reference signal resources of the group of measurement reference signal resources, or whether attributes of all measurement reference signal resources of the group of measurement reference signal resources are greater than a first threshold.
  • In some arrangements, selecting one from the group of measurement reference signal resources and the X measurement reference signal resources of the group of measurement reference signal resources includes at least one of selecting, by the UE, the group of measurement reference signal resources in response to determining that attribute difference of two or more measurement reference signal resource of the group of measurement reference signal resources is less than a second threshold or selecting, by the UE, the X measurement reference signal resources of the group of measurement reference signal resources in response to determining that attribute difference of two or more measurement reference signal resource of the group of measurement reference signal resources is equal to or greater than the second threshold.
  • In some arrangements, selecting one from the group of measurement reference signal resources and the X measurement reference signal resources of the group of measurement reference signal resources includes at least one of selecting, by the UE, the group of measurement reference signal resources in response to determining that a correlation between channels of two or more measurement reference signal resource of the group of measurement reference signal resources is equal to or greater than a third threshold or selecting, by the UE, the X measurement reference signal resources of the group of measurement reference signal resources in response to determining that a correlation between channels of two or more measurement reference signal resource of the group of measurement reference signal resources is equal to or less than the third threshold. In some arrangements, selecting one from the group of measurement reference signal resources and the X measurement reference signal resources of the group of measurement reference signal resources includes at least one of selecting, by the UE, the group of measurement reference signal resources in response to determining that attributes of all measurement reference signal resources of the group of measurement reference signal resources are equal to or larger than  the first threshold or selecting, by the UE, the X measurement reference signal resources of the group of measurement reference signal resources in response to determining that attribute of at least one of measurement reference signal resource of the group of measurement reference signal resources is less than the first threshold.
  • In some arrangements, the UE selects the group of measurement reference signal resources and reports the group of measurement reference signal resources, the method further includes reporting, by the wireless communication device to the node, at least one attribute shared by Y measurement reference signal sources of the group of measurement reference signal resources. Y is greater than 1 and less than or equal to a number of measurement reference signal sources of the group of measurement reference signal resources.
  • In some arrangements, the UE selects the group of measurement reference signal resources and reports the group of measurement reference signal resources in response to determining that differences between attributes of any two or more measurement reference signal sources of the group of measurement reference signal resources is below a first threshold.
  • In some arrangements, the UE selects to the group of measurement reference signal resources and reports the group of measurement reference signal resources in response to determining that a correlation between channels of two or more measurement reference signal sources of the group of measurement reference signal resources is greater than or equal to a second threshold.
  • In some arrangements, at least one of the first threshold, the second threshold, or the third threshold is determined by the wireless communication device according to at least one of  information sent by the wireless communication device to the node, information received by the wireless communication device from the node, or a value.
  • In some arrangements, the selected one from the group of measurement reference signal resources and the X measurement reference signal resources of the group of measurement reference signal resources is reported in Uplink Control Information (UCI) .
  • In some arrangements, the selected one from the group of measurement reference signal resources and the X measurement reference signal resources of the group of measurement reference signal resources is reported in a Physical Random Access Channel (PRACH) process.
  • In some arrangements, selecting one from the group and the X measurement reference signal resources includes selecting by a UE one from the group of measurement reference signal resources, the X measurement reference signal sources of the group of measurement reference signal resources and F measurement reference signal sources of a set of measurement reference signal resources. The set measurement reference signal resource set includes S groups of measurement reference signal resource, the group of measurement reference signal resources is a group of the Z groups and S is equal to 1 or greater than 1. The UE reports to the node the selected one from the group and the X measurement reference signal resources.
  • In some arrangements, selecting one from the group and the X measurement reference signal includes determining, by the UE, two or more groups from S groups of a set of measurement reference signal resources. The two or more groups comprises the group of the measurement reference signal resources. For each of the two or more groups, the UE selects one from the each group of measurement reference signal resources, X measurement reference signal sources of the each group of measurement reference signal resources. The set of measurement reference signal  resources includes the S groups of measurement reference signal resource, S is equal to 1 or greater than 1. The UE reports to the node the selected one for each of the two or more groups.
  • In some arrangements, the UE selects F measurement reference signal sources of a set of measurement reference signal resources. The set of measurement reference signal resources includes S groups of measurement reference signal resource, the group of measurement reference signal resources is one of the S groups and S is equal to 1 or greater than 1. The UE reports to the node, the selected one and the F measurement reference signal sources.
  • In some arrangements, the method further comprise determining, by the UE, a set of measurement reference signal resource according to received signaling or a rule. The set measurement reference signal resource set includes S groups of measurement reference signal resource and S is equal to 1 or greater larger than 1. The UE receives measurement reference signals on measurement reference signal resources of the one measurement reference signal resource set. The UE selects the one from the group of measurement reference signal resources and X measurement reference signal sources based on the measurement reference signals. In some examples, the UE selects the group of measurement reference signal resources based on a measurement performed on the set of measurement reference signal resources. In some examples, the set of measurement reference signal resources and the S groups of measurement reference signal resources is determined by the UE according to a received signaling from the node. In some examples, the UE selects one from the group of measurement reference signal resources and the X measurement reference signal resources based on a measurement performed on the group of measurement reference signal resources. In some examples, the set of measurement reference signal resources includes at least one measurement reference signal resource different from any of the S groups of measurement reference signal resources. In some arrangements, the method further includes determining, by the  UE, the group of measurement reference signal resources according to a second signaling received by the UE from the node.
  • In some arrangements, the method further includes determining, by the UE, a PRACH resource based on the selected one from the group of measurement reference signal resources and the X measurement reference signal resources of the group of measurement reference signal resources.
  • In some examples, in response to selecting the group of measurement reference signal resources, the UE determines the PRACH resource from a PRACH resource pool. The PRACH resource pool includes multiple PRACH resource groups, each of which corresponds to a measurement reference signal resource of the group of the measurement reference signal resources.
  • In some examples, in response to selecting the group of measurement reference signal resources, the UE selects the PRACH resource from a PRACH resource pool. The PRACH resource pool includes multiple PRACH resource sub groups, each of which is a first sub group of two sub groups of a PRACH resource group corresponding to a measurement reference signal resource of the group of the measurement reference signal resources.
  • In some examples, in response to selecting the X measurement reference signal resources, the UE determines the PRACH resource from a PRACH resource group which corresponds to the X measurement reference signal, X is 1.
  • In some examples, in response to selecting the X measurement reference signal resources, the UE determines the PRACH resource from a PRACH resource sub group which is a second sub group of two sub groups of a PRACH resource group corresponding to the X  measurement reference signal resources of the group of the measurement reference signal resources, wherein X is 1.
  • In some examples, in response to selecting the group of measurement reference signal resources, the UE determines the PRACH resource from a PRACH resource group corresponding to the group of measurement reference signal resources. There are N+1 PRACH resource groups. N is the number of measurement reference signal resources in the group of the measurement reference signal resources. Each of the N measurement reference signal resources of the group corresponds to one of the N+1 PRACH resource groups and the group of measurement reference signal resource corresponds to one of the N+1 PRACH resource.
  • In some arrangements, the select one is the group of the measurement reference signal resources, and reporting the group of measurement reference signal resources includes reporting, by the UE, an index of the group of measurement reference signal resources or reporting indices for all measurement resources in the group.
  • In some arrangements, selecting the one from the group of measurement reference signal resources and X measurement reference signal sources of the group of measurement reference signal resources is based on a power offset between a channel for calculating an attribute of a measurement reference signal resource and a channel of the measurement reference signal resource. In some arrangements, the UE determines the power offset according to at least one of a relationship between attributes of measurement reference signal resources of the group of the measurement reference signal resources, and a received signaling. In some arrangements, the selected one from the group of measurement reference signal resources and the X measurement reference signal sources of the group of measurement reference signal resources is the X  measurement reference signal resources. The UE reports to the node an attribute for each of the X measurement reference signal resources.
  • In some arrangements, the attribute of a measurement reference signal resource includes at least one of Reference Signal Received Power (RSRP) , Signal to Interference and Noise Ratio (SINR) , Channel Quality Indication (CQI) , Reference Signal Received Quality (RSRQ) , and correlation of the measurement reference signal resource. In some arrangements, the measurement reference signal resource includes a reference signal. In some arrangements, reference signal includes at least one of CSI-RS, Demodulation Reference Signal (DMRS) , and a synchronization signal.
  • FIG. 1B is a process flow diagram illustrating an example method 100b for selecting and reporting measurement reference signal resources, according to various arrangements. At 130, the UE selects a group of measurement reference signal resources in response to determining that a condition is satisfied, wherein the condition comprises an attribute difference of any two measurement reference signal resources in the group being less than a first threshold and attributes of all measurement reference signal resources in the group are greater than a third threshold. At 140, the UE reports to a node the selected group of measurement reference signal resources.
  • In some arrangements, in the methods 100a and 100b, the UE receives from the node the group of measurement reference signal resources. The group of measurement reference signal resources includes a group of CSI-RS resources. Each of the one or more (e.g., X) measurement reference signal resources includes a CSI-RS resource.
  • In some arrangements, the selected group of measurement reference signal resources includes the selected group of measurement reference signal resources corresponding to a value of  a reporting bits field. In some arrangements, the number of bits of the one same reporting bits field or the number of bits of the reporting field is one of: ceil (log2 (M+S) ) or ceil (log2 (N+1) ) . M is a number of measurement reference signal resources of a set of measurement reference signal resources. S is a number of groups of measurement reference signal resources in the set. N is a number of measurement reference signal resources of the group of measurement reference signal resources.
  • In some arrangements, reporting one of the index of the group of measurement reference signal resources and the index of each of the X measurement reference signal resources using one or two reporting bits field is based on at least one of a relationship between ceil (log2 (M+S) ) and ceil (log2 (M) ) , M, S, N, a relationship between ceil (log2 (M+1) ) and ceil (log2 (M) ) ; or a relationship between ceil (log2 (N+1) ) and ceil (log2 (N) ) . M is a number of measurement reference signal resources of a set of measurement reference signal resources. S is a number of groups of measurement reference signal resources included in the set. N is a number of measurement reference signal resources of the group of measurement reference signal resources.
  • In some arrangements, the UE selects the group of measurement reference signal resources and reports the group of measurement reference signal resources, the method further includes reporting, by the wireless communication device to the node, at least one attribute shared by Y measurement reference signal sources of the group of measurement reference signal resources. Y is greater than 1 and less than or equal to a number of measurement reference signal sources of the group of measurement reference signal resources.
  • In some arrangements, the UE selects the group of measurement reference signal resources and reports the group of measurement reference signal resources in response to  determining that differences between attributes of any two or more measurement reference signal sources of the group of measurement reference signal resources is below a first threshold.
  • In some arrangements, the UE selects to the group of measurement reference signal resources and reports the group of measurement reference signal resources in response to determining that a correlation between channels of two or more measurement reference signal sources of the group of measurement reference signal resources is greater than or equal to a second threshold.
  • In some arrangements, at least one of the first threshold, the second threshold, or the third threshold is determined by the wireless communication device according to at least one of information sent by the wireless communication device to the node, information received by the wireless communication device from the node, or a value.
  • In some arrangements, the selected one from the group of measurement reference signal resources and the X measurement reference signal resources of the group of measurement reference signal resources is reported in Uplink Control Information (UCI) .
  • In some arrangements, the selected one from the group of measurement reference signal resources and the X measurement reference signal resources of the group of measurement reference signal resources is reported in a Physical Random Access Channel (PRACH) process.
  • In some arrangements, selecting one from the group and the X measurement reference signal resources includes selecting by a UE one from the group of measurement reference signal resources, the X measurement reference signal sources of the group of measurement reference signal resources and F measurement reference signal sources of a set of measurement reference  signal resources. The set measurement reference signal resource set includes S groups of measurement reference signal resource, the group of measurement reference signal resources is a group of the Z groups and S is equal to 1 or greater than 1. The UE reports to the node the selected one from the group and the X measurement reference signal resources.
  • In some arrangements, selecting one from the group and the X measurement reference signal includes determining, by the UE, two or more groups from S groups of a set of measurement reference signal resources. The two or more groups comprises the group of the measurement reference signal resources. For each of the two or more groups, the UE selects one from the each group of measurement reference signal resources, one or more measurement reference signal sources of the each group of measurement reference signal resources. The set of measurement reference signal resources includes the S groups of measurement reference signal resource, S is equal to 1 or greater than 1. The UE reports to the node the selected one for each of the two or more groups.
  • In some arrangements, the UE selects F measurement reference signal sources of a set of measurement reference signal resources. The set of measurement reference signal resources includes S groups of measurement reference signal resource, the group of measurement reference signal resources is one of the S groups and S is equal to 1 or greater than 1. The UE reports to the node, the selected one and the F measurement reference signal sources.
  • In some arrangements, the method further comprise determining, by the UE, a set of measurement reference signal resource according to received signaling or a rule. The set measurement reference signal resource set includes S groups of measurement reference signal resource and S is equal to 1 or greater larger than 1. The UE receives measurement reference  signals on measurement reference signal resources of the one measurement reference signal resource set. The UE selects the one from the group of measurement reference signal resources and X measurement reference signal sources based on the measurement reference signals. In some examples, the UE selects the group of measurement reference signal resources based on a measurement performed on the set of measurement reference signal resources. In some examples, the set of measurement reference signal resources and the S groups of measurement reference signal resources is determined by the UE according to a received signaling from the node. In some examples, the UE selects one from the group of measurement reference signal resources and the X measurement reference signal resources based on a measurement performed on the group of measurement reference signal resources. In some examples, the set of measurement reference signal resources includes at least one measurement reference signal resource different from any of the S groups of measurement reference signal resources. In some arrangements, the method further includes determining, by the UE, the group of measurement reference signal resources according to a second signaling received by the UE from the node.
  • In some arrangements, the select one is the group of the measurement reference signal resources, and reporting the group of measurement reference signal resources includes reporting, by the UE, an index of the group of measurement reference signal resources or reporting indices for all measurement resources in the group.
  • In some arrangements, selecting the one from the group of measurement reference signal resources and X measurement reference signal sources of the group of measurement reference signal resources is based on a power offset between a channel for calculating an attribute of a measurement reference signal resource and a channel of the measurement reference signal resource. In some arrangements, the UE determines the power offset according to at least one of  a relationship between attributes of measurement reference signal resources of the group of the measurement reference signal resources, and a received signaling.
  • In some arrangements, the attribute of a measurement reference signal resource includes at least one of Reference Signal Received Power (RSRP) , Signal to Interference and Noise Ratio (SINR) , Channel Quality Indication (CQI) , Reference Signal Received Quality (RSRQ) , and correlation of the measurement reference signal resource. In some arrangements, the measurement reference signal resource includes a reference signal. In some arrangements, reference signal includes at least one of CSI-RS, Demodulation Reference Signal (DMRS) , and a synchronization signal
  • In some arrangements, the UE reports to a node (e.g., a BS, an RIS, a middle node, and so on) selection information using a first reporting field that indicates a selected one from the index of the CSI-RS resource group and the one or more CSI-RS resource indices each corresponding to a CSI-RS resource in the CSI-RS resource group. In some examples in which the selection information indicates that the UE selects the index of the CSI-RS resource group, the UE can further report to the node at least one attribute (e.g., a quality, a characteristics, or so on) shared by all CSI-RS resources in the CSI-RS resource group. In some examples in which the selection information indicates that the UE selects the index of the CSI-RS resource group, the UE can further report to the node at least one attribute (e.g., a quality, a characteristics, or so on) shared by two or more CSI-RS resources in the CSI-RS resource group.
  • In the example in which the selection information indicates that the UE selects one or more CSI-RS resources in the CSI-RS resource group, the UE can further report the index of each of the selected one or more CSI-RS resource indices in the CSI-RS resource group using a second  reporting field. If the number of the CSI-RS resources in the CSI-RS resource group is N, the UE uses a number of bits defined by ceil (log2 (N) ) bits to report the one or more CSI-RS resources in the group. In some examples, the UE needs X*ceil (log2 (N) ) bits to report the selected one or more CSI-RS resources, where M is the number of the selected CSI-RS resources and X is the number of the selected CSI-RS resources. That is the UE reports X values of the second reporting field. Alternatively, the UE uses N bits to report the selected one or more CSI-RS resources in the group.
  • FIG. 2 is a table 200 illustrating mapping between 3-bit values of the second reporting field and corresponding mapped information, according to various arrangements. In the example in which N is 8, each 3-bit value of the second field represents an index mapped to a respective one of 8 CSI-RS resources in the CSI-RS resource group to report one CSI-RS resource in the group. In some examples, UE reporting a 3-bit value 001 indicates that the UE selects the second CSI-RS resource in the CSI-RS resource group.
  • In some arrangements, the number of the CSI-RS resources in the CSI-RS resource group is N. The UE uses one same reporting field with a number of bits defined by ceil (ceil (log2 (N) ) (N+1) ) to report the selected one or more CSI-RS resource indices in the CSI-RS resource group or the index of the CSI-RS resource group. FIG. 3 is a table 300 illustrating mapping between 4-bit values of the one reporting field and corresponding mapped information, according to various arrangements. In the example in which N is 15, each 4-bit value in a field represents an index mapped to a respective one of 15 CSI-RS resources in the CSI-RS resource group or the index of the group. In some examples, UE reporting a 4-bit value 0000 indicates that the UE selects the first CSI-RS resource in the CSI-RS resource group. In some examples, UE reporting a 4-bit value 1111 indicates that the UE selects the CSI-RS resource group. Given that  the number of the CSI-RS resource group is one, the index of the group is fixed by the UE and the node. In some examples, the index of the group is 0. That is, reporting the index of the group means reporting the group.
  • The differences between the reporting method described with respect to FIG. 2 and the reporting method described with respect to FIG. 3 include whether the CSI-RS resource indices and the index of the group are numbered together and reported together using a same reporting field. The difference between the reporting method described with respect to FIG. 2 and the reporting method described with respect to FIG. 3 includes whether the index of the group and the one or more CSI-RS resource corresponds to different values of one reporting field. In the reporting method described with respect to FIG. 2, the CSI-RS resource indices and the index of the group are not numbered together. The UE can first report the selection information to the node using a first reporting field with 1 bit. If the 1-bit value indicates that the CSI-RS resource index instead the CSI-RS resource group index is selected, the UE further report the one or more indices of the CSI-RS resources in the group using ceil (log2 (N) ) bits as shown in the table 200.
  • In the reporting method described with respect to FIG. 3, the CSI-RS resource indices and the index of the group are numbered together. The CSI-RS resource indices and the index of the CSI-RS resource group are represented by different states (that is values) of one same reporting field with ceil (log2 (N+1) ) bits as shown in the table 300. In the example in which N is 8, and the UE selects 4 CSI-RS resources in the group, the UE uses 13 bits, e.g., 1+ 4*ceil (log2 (8) ) if the reporting method described with respect to FIG. 2 is used and the UE uses 16 bits, e.g., 4*ceil (log2 (8+1) ) if the reporting method described with respect to FIG. 3 is used. In the example in which N is 7, and the UE selects 4 CSI-RS resources in the group, the UE uses 13 bits, e.g.,  1+ 4*ceil (log2 (7) ) if the reporting method described with respect to FIG. 2 is used, and the UE uses 12 bits, e.g., 4*ceil (log2 (7+1) ) if the reporting method described with respect to FIG. 3 is used.
  • In the example in which ceil (log2 (N+1) ) is equal to ceil (log2 (N) ) , the reporting method described with respect to FIG. 3 uses fewer bits than the reporting method described with respect to FIG. 2. In the example in which ceil (log2 (N+1) ) is greater than ceil (log2 (N) ) , the reporting method described with respect to FIG. 2 uses fewer bits than the reporting method described with respect to FIG. 2.
  • In some examples, the UE selects one of the reporting method described with respect to FIG. 2 and the reporting method described with respect to FIG. 3 depending on the relationship between ceil (log2 (N+1) ) and ceil (log2 (N) ) . In the case where ceil (log2 (N+1) ) is equal to ceil (log2 (N) ) , the reporting method described with respect to FIG. 3 is used. In the case where ceil (log2 (N+1) ) is greater than ceil (log2 (N) ) , the reporting method described with respect to FIG. 2 is used.
  • In the arrangements in which the UE reports the index of the CSI-RS resource group, the UE can further report a quality shared by two or more or all CSI-RS resources in the CSI-RS resource group. For example, the UE can report to the node one reference power parameter such as a same Reference Signal Received Power (RSRP) for the CSI-RS resource group. Each CSI-RS resource in the group is associated with the same RSRP.
  • In some arrangement in which the UE reports the group of CSI-RS resources when the UE determines that an attribute of each CSI-RS resource in the group is greater than or equal to a threshold. The UE reports the one or more CSI-RS resource index in response to the UE  determining that an attribute of at least one of CSI-RS resource in the group is less than the threshold.
  • In some arrangements in which the UE reports the index of the CSI-RS resource group, the differences in RSRPs among any two CSI-RS resources in the CSI-RS resource group is lower than a first threshold. In some implementation, the first threshold is close to 0, such as the first threshold is in the range of 0.1 to 0.3.
  • In some arrangements in which the UE reports the index of the CSI-RS resource group, the differences in relative RSRPs among any two CSI-RS resources in the CSI-RS resource group is lower than the first threshold.
  • In some arrangements in which the UE reports the index of the CSI-RS resource group, the correlation between the channels of any two CSI-RS resources in the group is greater than a second threshold. In some implementation, the second threshold is close to 1. For example the second threshold is in the range of 0.85 to 1.
  • In some arrangements in which the UE reports the index of the CSI-RS resource group, the UE can further report an attribute shared by all CSI-RS resources in the CSI-RS resource group. For example, the UE can report a correlation shared by all the CSI-RS resources in the CSI-RS resource group. For example, a correlation between channels of any two CSI-RS resources in the group is greater than the reported correlation. Alternatively, the difference between the correlation between channels of any two CSI-RS resources in the group and the reported correlation is equal to or greater than a second threshold.
  • In some arrangements in which the UE reports one or more CSI-RS resource indices in the group, the UE respectively reports RSRP for each of the reported CSI-RS resources. The UE can report the multiple RSRPs using a difference method. In the example in which the UE selects CSI-RS resources with indices 1, 3, and 4, the UE reports the maximum RSRP (e.g., the reference RSRP) for the CSI-RS resource 3 and a difference in RSRPs for each of CSI-RS resource indices 1 and 4 with respect to the maximum RSRP for the difference RSRP. In the example in which the UE selects CSI-RS resources with indices 1, 3, and 4, the UE reports the minimum RSRP (e.g., the reference RSRP) for the CSI-RS resource 3 and a difference in RSRPs for each of CSI-RS resource indices 1 and 4 with respect to the minimum RSRP.
  • In some arrangements in which the UE reports one or more CSI-RS resource indices in the CSI-RS resource group, the number of the selected CSI-RS resources can be less than or equal to the number of CSI-RS resources in the group. Even the case in which the number of selected CSI-RS resources is equal to the number of CSI-RS resources is different from the case in which the UE selects the CSI-RS resource group. In the example in which the UE reports and selects indices for all CSI-RS resources in the CSI-RS resource group, the UE also reports an attribute (e.g., the RSRP) for each of the CSI-RS resource in the group. In the example in which the UE reports the index of the CSI-RS resource group, the UE reports only one RSRP shared by all CSI-RS resources in the group instead of reporting the RSRP for each of the selected CSI-RS resources.
  • In some arrangements in which the UE selects the CSI-RS resource group, the UE reports one attribute shared by the CSI-RS resource group. If the UE selects one or more CSI-RS resources, the UE respectively reports one attribute for each of the selected CSI-RS resources. In a first case, the UE reports the group and one attribute shared by the group. In a second case, the UE reports/selects all CSI-RS resources in the group and one respectively attribute for each of the  all CSI-RS resource in the group. The first case and the second case are two different cases. Although in both cases the UE selects all CSI-RS resources in the group, a same attribute is shared by all the CSI-RS resources in the group in the first case. The attributes of the all CSI-RS resources in the group are different and reported respectively and each of all the CSI-RS resources is associated with one respective attribute in the second case. In the first case in which the UE selects the entire of the group, the UE reports the group by reporting indices for all CSI-RS resources in the group, such as using one bitmap. The UE reports one attribute shared by all CSI-RS resources in the group.
  • FIG. 4 is a schematic block diagram illustrating an example employment for providing wireless network communications for UEs 430, 440a, 440b using a BS 410 and a Re-configurable Intelligent Surface (RIS) 420, according to various arrangements. The BS 410 repeats to transmit beam 415 on N occasions. The RIS 420 transmits N (e.g., 4) beams (e.g., including beams 425a, 425b, 425c, and 425d) on the N occasions. Each of the N occasions corresponds to one CSI-RS resource. The one CSI-RS resource group includes the N CSI-RS resources. The UE 430 receives the same beam 415 from the B S 410 on the N CSI-RS resources. The RIS 420 can extend the coverage of the BS 410 and the beam 415 to UEs (e.g., the UEs 440a and 440b) beyond the coverage of the BS 410. The RIS 420 can communicate with (sending data to and receiving data from) the BS 410 using the beam 415. The RIS 420 can communicate with UEs using beams 425a, 425b, 425c, and 425d.
  • The UE 430 measures and determines that the N CSI-RS resources have similar attributes. For example, the UE 430 can determine that the N CSI-RS resources have similar RSRPs (e.g., the differences thereof below the first threshold) . For example, the UE 430 can determine that the channels of the N CSI-RS resources have high correlation (e.g., above the  second threshold) . In response, the UE 430 selects the CSI-RS resource group instead of one or more CSI-RS resources in the CSI-RS resources group.
  • Each of the UEs 440a and 440b selects and reports one or more of the N CSI-RS resource. The UEs 440a and 440b can be referred to as RIS-UEs. Each of the UEs 440a and 440b can receive different transmission beams from the RIS 420 on the N CSI-RS resources. For example, the UE 440a receives the beam 425a from the RIS 420, and the UE 440b receives the beam 425b from the RIS 420. Each of the UEs 440a and 440b measures and determines that the N CSI-RS resources have different attributes. For example, each of the UE 440a or 440b can determine that the N CSI-RS resources have different RSRPs (e.g., the differences thereof above the first thresholds) . For example, the UE 430 can determine that the channels of the N CSI-RS resources have low correlation (e.g., below the second threshold) . In response, each of the UE 440a or 440b can select one or more CSI-RS resources from the N CSI-RS resources in the group and reports the RSRP for each selected CSI-RS resource. For example, the UE 440a can selects CSI-RS resource index 0 and reports RSRP for the selected CSI-RS resource index 0. The UE 440b can selects CSI-RS resource index 1 and reports RSRP for the CSI-RS resource index 1.
  • The BS 410 does not need to use the RIS 420 to cover the UE 430, given that the UE 430 is within the coverage of the beam 415. The RIS 420 can be used to cover other UEs such as UEs 440a and 440b. The BS 410 can efficiently use the RIS 420 to serve the UEs 440a and 440b in response to receiving the reports from the UEs 440a, 440b and UE 430.
  • Although RSRP is used as an example for the reference power parameter, other parameters such as Channel Quality Indication (CQI) , Signal to Interference and Noise Ratio  (SINR) , channel correlation, Reference Signal Received Quality (RSRQ) , other suitable qualities or attributes, and so on can be likewise implemented.
  • In some examples in which there is only one CSI-RS resource group, N CSI-RS resources are all in the CSI-RS resource group. In some examples, one or more CSI-RS resources is not in the CSI-RS resource group. In an example in which M CSI-RS resources include N CSI-RS resources in the group, at least one M-N CSI-RS resource that is not in the group.
  • FIG. 5 is a schematic block diagram illustrating an example deployment for providing wireless network communications for UEs 430, 530, 440a, 440b using a BS 410 and an RIS 420, according to various arrangements. As noted herein, the RIS 420 can extend the coverage of the BS 410 using the beam 525a to 525d to UEs (e.g., the UEs 440a and 440b) beyond the coverage of the BS 410. The RIS 420 can communicate with (sending data to and receiving data from) the BS 410 using the beam 515b. The RIS 420 can communicate with UEs using beams 425a, 425b, 425c, and 425d.
  • The M CSI-RS resources include or correspond to beams 515a, 515b and 515c used by the BS 410 to communicate with the UEs and the RISs. The BS 410 repeats to transmit beam 515b on N occasions. The RIS 420 transmits N beams (e.g., including beams 425a, 425b, 425c, and 425d) on the N occasions. Each of the N occasions corresponds to one CSI-RS resource. The one CSI-RS resource group corresponding to the beam 515b includes the N CSI-RS resources. The UE 430 receives the same beam 515b from the B S 410 on the N CSI-RS resources.
  • The RIS 420 transmits different beams on the N repeated beam 515b from the BS410. For example, one CSI-RS resource set includes CSI-RS resource indices 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 which corresponds to beams 515a and 515c and N (e.g., 4) repeated beam 515b respectively. The BS  410 further informs each of the UEs 440a, 440b UE and UE 430 that a group includes the CSI-RS resource indices 2, 3, 4, and 5. Each of the UEs 440a, 440b and UE 430 selects and reports one or more CSI-RS resources from the M resources. In the examples in which a UE (e.g., the UE 440a, UE 440b and UE 430) selects a CSI-RS resource in the group, the UE 440a UE 440b and UE 430 reports the selection between the group and the one or more CSI-RS resources in the group.
  • In some examples, the UE 440a uses a first reporting field with a number of bits determined using ceil (log2 (M-N+2) ) to report to the BS 410 which beam of the BS 410 is selected by the UE 440a and the selection between the group and one or more resources in the group. In the example in which one or more CSI-RS resources in the group is selected by the UE 440a or the UE 440b using the first reporting field, the UE 440a or the UE 440b reports the index of the at least one selected CSI-RS resource in the group using a second reporting field with ceil (log2 (N) ) bits and at least one attribute for each of the at least one selected CSI-RS resource. If the group is selected by the UE 430 using the first reporting field and the UE 430 reports to the BS 410 the at least one attribute shared by all CSI-RS resources in the group.
  • FIG. 6 is a table 600 illustrating mapping between values of the first reporting field and corresponding mapped information, according to various arrangements. The number of bits in the first reporting field is ceil (log2 (N) ) (M-N+2) ) as described. As shown, the 2-bit value of 00 indicates that CSI-RS resource index 0 is selected. The 2-bit value of 01 indicates that CSI-RS resource index 1 is selected. The 2-bit value of 10 indicates that one or more CSI-RS resources from the group which includes the CSI-RS resource indices 2, 3, 4, and 5 is selected. The 2-bit value of 11 indicates that the group which includes the CSI-RS resource indices 2, 3, 4, and 5 is selected. In the example in which the UE 440a or UE 440b reports value ‘10’ of the first reporting field, the UE 440a or the UE 440b selects the one or more CSI-RS resources in the group  and also reports at least one index each corresponding to a respective one of the one or more selected CSI-RS resources in the group using the second reporting field. In the example in which the UE 430 reports 11 in the first reporting field, the UE 430 selects the group and also reports at least one attribute for the group. A UE can simultaneously report multiple values of the first reporting field, but the UE may not report values 10 and 11 of the first reporting field simultaneously. The UE can report any of the values 00, 01, and one from values 10 and 11 simultaneously.
  • In some examples, the UE 440a (or UE 440b, UE 430, or UE 530) reports the selected CSI-RS resource using a number of bits defined by ceil (ceil (log2 (N) ) (M+1) ) . In the example in which the UE 440a selects one CSI-RS resource in the CSI-RS resource group, the UE 440a does not report the group. In the example in which the UE 430 selects the CSI-RS resource group, the UE 430 does not report an index of the CSI-RS resource in the CSI-RS resource group. The UE 530 reports an index of the CSI-RS resource in the M CSI-RS resources and not in the CSI-RS resource group.
  • FIG. 7 is a table 700 illustrating mapping between values of the first reporting field and corresponding mapped information, according to various arrangements. The number of bits in the first reporting field is determined using ceil (log2 (M+1) ) as described. As shown, the 3-bit value of 000, 001, 010, 011, 100, and 101 each indicates a respective one of the CSI-RS resource indices 0-5 is selected. The 3-bit value of 110 indicates that one or more CSI-RS resources from the group which includes the CSI-RS resource indices 2, 3, 4, and 5 is selected. The 3-bit value of 111 is reserved. In some examples, a UE cannot report at least one value from 010-110 and 111. The UE can simultaneously report more than one values of the first reporting field, but the  more than one values of the reporting field reported by the UE simultaneously satisfies some restrictions.
  • In some examples, the UE 440a reports the selected CSI-RS resource using either the method described with respect to FIG. 6 or the method described with respect to FIG. 7 based on the M and N. For example, in response to determining that ceil (log2 (M+1) ) =ceil (log2 (M) ) , the method described with respect to FIG. 7 is used. In response to determining that ceil (log2 (M+1) ) >ceil (log2 (M) ) , the method described with respect to FIG. 6 is used. The difference between the FIG. 6 and FIG. 7 is similar as the difference between FIG. 2 and FIG. 3. The difference between the FIG. 6 and FIG. 7 includes that whether the index of the group and the index of a specific of CSI-RS resource in the group are number together and corresponds to one same reporting field.
  • In some arrangements, the CSI-RS resource set includes a plurality groups. Each group of the plurality of groups corresponds to one repeated beam from the base station and multiple RIS transmission beams from the RIS.
  • FIG. 8 is a schematic block diagram illustrating an example employment for providing wireless network communications for UEs 430, 530, 440a, 440b, 840a, and 840b using the BS 410, the RIS 420, and an RIS 820, according to various arrangements. As noted herein, the RIS 420 can extend the coverage of the BS 410 and the beam 515b to UEs (e.g., the UEs 440a and 440b) beyond the coverage of the BS 410, and the RIS 820 can extend the coverage of the BS 410 and the beam 515c to UEs (e.g., the UEs 840a and 840b) beyond the coverage of the BS 410. The RIS 420 can communicate with (sending data to and receiving data from) the BS 410 using the beam 515b. The RIS 420 can communicate with UEs using beams 425a, 425b, 425c, and 425d. The  RIS 820 can communicate with (sending data to and receiving data from) the BS 410 using the beam 515c. The RIS 420 can communicate with UEs using beams 825a, 825b, and 825c.
  • The M CSI-RS resources include or correspond to beams 515a to 515c used by the BS 410 to communicate with the UEs and the RISs. The BS 410 repeats to transmit beam 515b on N occasions. The RIS 420 transmits N beams (e.g., including beams 425a, 425b, 425c, and 425d) on the N occasions. Each of the N occasions corresponds to one CSI-RS resource. The one CSI-RS resource group corresponding to the beam 515b includes the N CSI-RS resources. The UE 430 receives the same beam 515b from the BS 410 on the N CSI-RS resources.
  • Different CSI-RS resource groups may correspond to different RISs. The CSI-RS resource set includes CSI-RS resource indices 0-7 corresponding to beams 515a, 4 repeated occasions (e.g., beams 425a, 425b, 425c, and 425d) of beam 515b, 3 repeated occasions (e.g., beams 825a, 825b, and 825c) of beam 515c from the BS 410, respectively. In some examples, the 4 repeated occasions of beam 515b corresponds to 4 different transmission beams 425a, 425b, 425c, and 425d from RIS 420, and the 3 repeated occasions of beam 515c corresponds to 3 different transmission beams 825a, 825b, and 825c from RIS 820. The BS 410 informs a UE (e.g., UE 840a, UEs 430, 530, 440a, 440b, 840a, or 840b) that the first CSI-RS resource group includes CSI-RS resource indices 1-4 and the second CSI-RS resource group includes CSI-RS resources indices 5-7. The CSI-RS resource 0 corresponds to beam 515a from the BS 410. There is no RIS beams for the beam 515a from the B S 410.
  • In some examples, the UE 840a (or any one or more UEs 430, 530, 440a, 440b, 840a, and 840b) reports a first reporting field having a number of bits defined by ceil (log2 (2*S+M-the number of resources in all the S groups) ) , where S is the number of CSI-RS resource  groups in the set of CSI-RS resources, and M is the number of CSI-RS resources in the group. FIG. 9 is a table 900 illustrating mapping between values of the first reporting field and corresponding mapped information, according to various arrangements. The number of bits in the first reporting field is determined using ceil (ceil (log2 (N) ) (2*S+M-the number of resources in all the S groups) ) , as described. The number of resources in all of the S groups is 7 (e.g., 4+3) , M = 8, S = 2, and ceil (log2 (2*S+M-the number of resources in all the S groups) ) =ceil (log2 (2*2+8-7) ) =3.
  • As shown, the 3-bit value of 000 indicates that the CSI-RS resource index 0 is selected. The 3-bit value of 001 indicates that one or more CSI-RS resources from the CSI-RS resource group which includes the CSI-RS resource indices 1-4 is selected. The 3-bit value of 010 indicates that the CSI-RS resource group (with group index 0) which includes the CSI-RS resource indices 1-4 is selected. The 3-bit value of 011 indicates that one or more CSI-RS resources from the CSI-RS resource group which includes the CSI-RS resource indices 5-7 is selected. The 3-bit value of 011 indicates that the CSI-RS resource group (with group index 1) which includes the CSI-RS resource indices 5-7 is selected. The 3-bit values of 101-111 are reserved.
  • For each group, the UE 840a cannot select the group and one or more CSI-RS resources in the group simultaneously. For example, the UE 840a cannot report values 011 and 011 simultaneously. The UE 840a or the UE 840b cannot report values 011 and 100 simultaneously. If value 001 is reported, the UE 440a or the UE 440b further reports at least one CSI-RS resource index from the group of the CSI-RS resource indices 1-4 using a second reporting field. If value 011 is reported, the UE 840a or the UE 840b further reports at least one CSI-RS resource index from the group of the CSI-RS resource indices 5-7.
  • In some examples, the UE 840a reports the selected resources from the set of CSI-RS resources using one reporting field having a number of bits defined by ceil (log2 (M+S) ) where S is the number of CSI-RS resource groups, and M is the number of CSI-RS resources in the group. FIG. 10A is a table 1000 illustrating mapping between values of the one reporting field and corresponding mapped information, according to various arrangements. The number of bits in the one reporting field is determined using ceil (log2 (M+S) ) , as described. The number of resources in all of the S groups is 7 (e.g., 4+3) , and ceil (log2 (M+S) =4.
  • As shown, the 4-bit values of 0000, 0001, 0010, 0011, 0100, 0101, 0110, and 0111 indicates that a respective one of the CSI-RS resource indices 0-7 is selected. The 4-bit value of 1000 indicates that the CSI-RS resource group (with group index 0) which includes the CSI-RS resource indices 1-4 is selected. The 4-bit value of 1001 indicates that the CSI-RS resource group (with group index 1) which includes the CSI-RS resource indices 5-7 is selected. The 4-bit values of 1010-1111 are reserved.
  • In some examples, the UE can report multiple values for the one same reporting filed simultaneously. The UE does not report some values simultaneously. For example, the UE does not report group selection and one or more CSI-RS resource indices in the same group simultaneously. For example, the UE does not report the value 1000 and any one from values set {0001, 0010, 0011, 0100} simultaneously. For example, the UE does not report the value 1001 and any one from values set {0101, 0110, 0111} simultaneously.
  • In some examples, the UE 840a reports selected CSI-RS resource using either the method described with respect to FIG. 9 or the method described with respect to FIG. 10A based on the M and S. For example, in response to determining that ceil (log2 (M+S) ) = ceil (log2 (M) ) , the method described with respect to FIG. 10A is used, otherwise, the method described with respect to FIG. 9 is used. The difference between FIG. 9 and FIG. 10A includes that the group selection and one or more specific CSI-RS resources in the CSI-RS resource group is number together and corresponds to different values of one same reporting field.
  • In some examples, the CSI-RS resource is an example of the measurement reference signal resource. The measurement reference signal resource includes other reference signals such as synchronization reference signal resource or another suitable measurement reference signal.
  • In FIG. 10A, the mapping between values for a field and its corresponding indication can be defined in any suitable order as long as there are different values of the field corresponding to different types of indication. FIG. 10B is a table 1100 illustrating mapping between values of the first reporting field and corresponding mapped information, according to various arrangements. The number of bits in the first reporting field is determined using ceil (log2 (M+S) ) , as described. The number of resources in all of the S groups is 7 (e.g., 4+3) , and ceil (log2 (M+S) =4. As shown, the 4-bit values of 0000, 0001, 0010, 0011, 0100, 0110, 0111, and 1000 indicates that a respective one of the CSI-RS resource indices 0-7 is selected. The 4-bit value of 0101 indicates that the CSI-RS resource group (with group index 0) which includes the CSI-RS resource indices 1-4 is selected. The 4-bit value of 1001 indicates that the CSI-RS resource group (with group index 1) which includes the CSI-RS resource indices 5-7 is selected. The 4-bit values of 1010-1111 are reserved.
  • In some implementation, the UE determines a power offset between a channel for calculating quality and the channel of the CSI-RS resource according to a received signaling or a rule. The UE determines an attribute (e.g., a quality) based on the power offset. The UE determines  CSI-RS resources from the CSI-RS resource set including M CSI-RS resources. The quality includes at least one of RSRP, SINR, and RSRQ. For example, the power offset for a CSI-RS resource is α. The UE can obtain a channel based on the CSI-RS on the CSI-RS resource is h. The UE determines a channel h1=αh. The UE calculates the attribute based on h1.
  • In some implementations, a CSI-RS resource is associated with two power offset values between a channel for calculating quality and the channel of the CSI-RS resource. For each CSI-RS resource in the CSI-RS resource group, in response to the UE determining or selecting one or more CSI-RS resources, the power offset for the CSI-RS resource is a first value. In response to the UE determining or selecting the CSI-RS resource, the power offset for the CSI-RS resource is a second value.
  • In some implementations, each CSI-RS resource in the CSI-RS group is associated with two power offset values between a channel for calculating quality and the channel of the CSI-RS resource. For each CSI-RS resource in the CSI-RS resource group, in response to the UE determining that the receives attributes or qualities of all CSI-RS resources are similar or the same, or the difference between attributes of all CSI-RS resources is less than a threshold, the UE determines the power offset for the CSI-RS resource is a first value and the UE determines a new attribute based on the first value for selection CSI-RS resource from the CSI-RS resource set. In response to the UE determining that the received attributes of all CSI-RS resources are different or the difference between qualities of all CSI-RS resources is equal to or greater than the threshold, the power offset for the CSI-RS resource is a second value. In some implementations, the default power offset is a third value for each CSI-RS resource in the CSI-RS resource set, such as 1 dB. In some implementations, the CSI-RS resources in one CSI-RS resource group share a same power  offset. In the example in which the UE receives a beam from the RIS, the UE adapts the attribute for the beam to select beams from a beam set based on the power offset. The introduction of the power offset let the BS can efficiently use the middle node. For example, the power offset of beam from the RIS is higher than a beam not reflected by the middle node. Then the cost of letting RIS serve the UE and the addition beam gain when introducing RIS is considered in the process of selecting CSI-RS resources, that is in the process of selecting beams.
  • In some arrangements, the UE reports the CSI (e.g., the group of measurement reference signal resource or the one or more measurement reference signal resources) in Uplink Control Information (UCI) transmitted in uplink data channel or in uplink control channel. The UE can also report the CSI in a Physical Random Access Channel (PRACH) process. For example, the channel state information can be included in Msg1, Msg3, Msg 1A transmitted by the UE to the RIS or the BS. The CSI-RS can be replaced with a Synchronization Signal Broadcast (SSB) burst.
  • In some arrangements, the UE determines a SSB group according to a rule or a received signaling. The UE selects between the SSB group and one SSB from the SSB group including two or more SSBs. The UE determines its PRACH resource for the PRACH process based on the selection.
  • In the examples in which the UE selects the SSB group, all SSBs in the SSB group have the same or similar attribute. The channel difference between any two SSBs in the SSB group is less than a threshold. The SSBs in the SSB group have same or similar attribute. The UE selects a PRACH resource to transmit a preamble or a PRACH request from a PRACH resource pool. The PRACH resource pool includes multiple PRACH resource groups. Each PRACH resource group  corresponds to one SSB in the SSB group. Different PRACH resource groups correspond to different SSBs in the SSB group.
  • In some arrangement in which the UE reports the group of SSB resources in response to the UE determining that an attribute of each SSB resource in the group is greater than or equal to a threshold. That is attributes of all SSB resources in the group is greater than or equal to a threshold. The UE reports the one or more SSB resource indices in response to the UE determining that an attribute of at least one of SSB resource in the group is less than the threshold.
  • FIG. 11 is a diagram illustrating an example mapping relationship 1100 between PRACH resource groups and SSBs, according to various arrangements. As shown in FIG. 11, each of the SSBs 1110a, 1110b, …, 1110N corresponds to one PRACH resource group or subgroup 1120a, 1120b, …, 1120N. One PRACH resource includes at least one of a time-domain resource, a frequency-domain resource, and a code-domain resource such as preamble used for PRACH msg1 transmission. In FIG. 11, the UE determines that the SSB group that includes SSBs 1110a, 1110b, …, 1110N. If the UE selects the SSB group, the UE selects one PRACH resource from a PRACH resource pool which includes PRACH resource groups 1120a-1120N. The UE transmits PRACH request on the selected one PRACH resource. That is the UE transmits a preamble or PRACH request on the selected PRACH time, frequency, and code resource.
  • In the examples in which the UE selects one SSB from the SSB group, the UE selects one PRACH resource from one PRACH resource group corresponding to the selected SSB. For example, in response to selecting SSB 1110b from the SSB group, the UE selects one PRACH resource from PRACH resource group 1120b corresponding to SSB 1110b.
  • In the examples in which the UE selects the SSB group and reports the selected SSB group instead of one SSB from the SSB group in msg1 or msg 1A, the UE assumes that the Physical Downlink Control Channel (PDCCH) scheduling the Physical Downlink Shared Channel (PDSCH) carrying Msg2 is Quasi-Co-Locationed (QCL-ed) with any SSB in the SSB group. In some arrangements, the UE explicitly reports selection of the SSB group in Physical Uplink Shared Channel (PUSCH) of the msg1 in a 2-step PRACH process.
  • In some arrangements, the UE selects the SSB group and reports the selection in msg3 or after msg3, instead of in msg 1. The UE assumes that the PDCCH scheduling PDSCH carrying Msg2 is QCL-ed with one SSB corresponding to one PRACH resource group which includes the PRACH resource on which the UE transmits PRACH.
  • In some arrangements, the UE implicitly reports selection the SSB group. For example, the BS informs the UE that each PRACH group corresponding to one SSB in the SSB group includes two PRACH resource sub groups as shown in FIG. 11. In response to the UE selecting the SSB group, the UE selects one PRACH resource from one PRACH resource pool which includes multiple PRACH resource sub groups. Each PRACH resource sub group includes the first PRACH sub group of one group corresponding to one SSB in the SSB group.
  • In some arrangements, one PRACH resource pool includes a PRACH resource subgroup 1210a, a PRACH resource sub group 1220a, and a third PRACH resource sub group 1230a. In the example in which the UE selects one SSB from the SSB group, the UE selects from the second PRACH resource subgroup of one PRACH resource group corresponding to the selected on SSB. In the example in which the UE selects SSB 1110b, the UE selects PRACH resource from the PRACH resource sub group 1220b. The BS can determine which one between  the SSB group and one SSB from the SSB group is selected by the UE according to the received the PRACH resource. In the example in which the BS receives PRACH resource in a first sub group of one PRACH resource group, the BS can determine that the UE selects the SSB group. In the Example in which the BS receives PRACH resource in a second sub group of one PRACH resource group, the BS can determine that the UE selects one SSB corresponding to the one PRACH resource group.
  • In some arrangements in which the SSB group includes N SSBs, there are N+1 PRACH resource groups related to the SSB group. Each of the first N PRACH resource groups corresponds to one SSB in the SSB group. The last PRACH resource group corresponds to the case where the UE selects the SSB group as shown in FIG. 12B. The N+1 PRACH resource groups are different groups. In the examples in which the UE selects one SSB from SSB group, the UE selects PRACH resource from one PRACH resource group corresponding to the one selected SSB group. In the examples in which the UE selects the SSB group, the UE selects PRACH resource from one PRACH resource group corresponding to the case where the UE selects the SSB group. In the examples in which the UE selects SSB 1110b, the UE selects PRACH resource from one PRACH resource group 1120b corresponding to the SSB 1110b. In the examples in which the UE selects the SSB group, the UE selects PRACH resource from PRACH resource group N+1 corresponding to the case where the UE selects the SSB group.
  • As shown in FIGS. 12A and 12B, the UE implicitly reports its selection between the SSB group and one SSB from the SSB group by using different PRACH subgroups or different PRACH groups.
  • As shown in FIG. 4, the N SSBs in the SSB group corresponds to N repeated SSBs from the BS 410 and N different beams 425a, 425b, 425c, and 425d from the RIS 420. A UE selecting the SSB group implies that the UE is a BS-UE (e.g., the UE 430) , and that UE receives only beam (e.g., the beam 415) from the BS 410 and does not receive the beam from the RIS 420. The N repeated SSB from the BS have similar or the same receiving quality at the UE side.
  • In some arrangements, the UE selects one SSB from the SSB group instead of the SSB, and the SSBs in the SSB group have different receiving quality at the UE side. The channel differences between any two SSBs in the SSB group is higher than a threshold, implying that the UE is a RIS-UE (e.g., the UEs 440a and 440b) . Such UE receives the beam from an RIS (e.g., the RIS 420) . The N SSBs corresponds to different N RIS beams. The N SSBs have different receiving quality at the UE side.
  • In some examples, in addition to the RIS, other examples of the node can include a relay node, an Integrated Access and Backhaul (IAB) node, a Network Control Repeater (NCR) node, and so on. In some examples, such node can be referred to as a middle node that is between the BS and the UE. The middle node transmits and reflects signal from the BS to the UE, or from UE to the base station.
  • In FIG. 12A, each PRACH resource group includes at least one subgroup. For example, the PRACH resource group 1120a includes the subgroups 1210a and 1210b. The PRACH resource group 1120b includes the subgroups 1220a and 1220b. The PRACH resource group 1120N includes the subgroups 1230a and 1230b.
  • In the examples in which the UE selects one SSB from the SSB group, the UE selects a PRACH resource from a second sub group of one PRACH resource group corresponding to the  selected SSB. For example, in response to selecting SSB 1110b from the SSB group, the UE selects a PRACH resource from a second sub group 1220b of the PRACH resource group 1120b corresponding to SSB 1110b.
  • In some arrangements, the UE implicitly reports selection the SSB group. For example, the BS informs the UE that each PRACH group corresponding to one SSB in the SSB group includes two PRACH resource sub groups as shown in FIG. 12A. In response to the UE selecting the SSB group, the UE selects one PRACH resource from one PRACH resource pool which includes multiple PRACH resource sub groups. Each PRACH resource group includes the first PRACH sub group of one group corresponding to one SSB in the SSB group.
  • In some arrangements, one PRACH resource pool includes a PRACH resource subgroup 1210a, a PRACH resource sub group 1220a, and a third PRACH resource sub group 1230a. In the example in which the UE selects one SSB from the SSB group, the UE selects from the second PRACH resource subgroup of one PRACH resource group corresponding to the selected on SSB. In the example in which the UE selects SSB 1110b, the UE selects PRACH resource from the PRACH resource sub group 1220b. The BS can determine which one between the SSB group and one SSB from the SSB group is selected according to the received the PRACH resource. In the example in which the BS receives PRACH resource in a first sub group of one PRACH resource group, the BS can determine that the UE selects the SSB group. In the Example in which the BS receives PRACH resource in a second sub group of one PRACH resource group, the BS can determine that the UE selects one SSB corresponding to the one PRACH resource group.
  • FIG. 12B is a diagram illustrating an example mapping relationship 1200b between PRACH resource groups, subgroups, and SSBs, according to various arrangements. As shown in FIG. 12B, the SSB 1110a corresponds to one PRACH resource group 1120a. The SSB 1110b corresponds to PRACH resource groups 1120b and 1220N+1. The SSB 1110N corresponds to one PRACH resource group 1120N. The SSBs 1110a and 1110N belong to a same SSB group.
  • In some arrangements, the UE selects the SSB group and reports the selection in msg3 or after msg3, instead of in msg 1. The UE assumes that the PDCCH scheduling PDSCH carrying Msg2 is QCL-ed with one SSB corresponding to one PRACH resource group which includes the PRACH resource on which the UE transmits PRACH.
  • As shown in FIG. 4, the N SSBs in the SSB group corresponds to N repeated SSBs from the BS 410 and N different beams 425a, 425b, 425c, and 425d from the RIS 420. A UE selecting the SSB group implies that the UE is a BS-UE (e.g., the UE 430) , and that UE receives only beam (e.g., the beam 415) from the BS 410 and does not receive the beam from the RIS 420. The N repeated SSB from the BS have similar or the same receiving quality at the UE side.
  • In some arrangements, the UE selects one SSB from the SSB group instead of the SSB, and the SSBs in the SSB group have different receiving quality at the UE side. The channel differences between any two SSBs in the SSB group is higher than a threshold, implying that the UE is a RIS-UE (e.g., the UEs 440a and 440b) . Such UE receives the beam from an RIS (e.g., the RIS 420) .
  • In some arrangements, the N SSB corresponds to different N RIS beams and thy have different receiving qualities at the UE side. The BS can determine the type of the UE between BS-UE and RIS-UE by receiving the UE’s report of the selection between the measurement reference  signal group and one measurement reference signal from the measurement reference signal group. If the BS can determine the UE is a BS-UE, then the BS can schedule the RIS for other UE instead of for the UE. Accordingly, efficiency of using RIS and reduces the interfere can be improved due to efficient use of the RIS.
  • In some arrangements, the UE determines a power offset between a channel for calculating quality and the channel of the CSI-RS resource according to a received signaling or a rule. The UE determines the quality based on the power offset. The UE determines CSI-RS resources from the CSI-RS resource set including M CSI-RS resources. The quality includes at least one of RSRP, SINR, and RSRQ. For example, the power offset for a CSI-RS resource is α. The UE can obtain a channel based on the CSI-RS on the CSI-RS resource is h. The UE determines a channel h1=αh. The UE calculates the quality based on h1.
  • In some implementations, the UE determines a CSI-RS resource set according to received signaling or a rule. The CSI-RS resource set includes more CSI-RS resources. The CSI-RS resource set also includes one or more CSI-RS resource groups. Each of the one or more CSI-RS resource groups includes one or more CSI-RS resources.
  • In some implementation, a CSI-RS resource is associated with two power offset values between a channel for calculating quality and the channel of the CSI-RS resource. For each CSI-RS resource in the CSI-RS resource group, in the examples in which the UE determines or selects one or more CSI-RS resources, the power offset for the CSI-RS resource is a first value. In the examples in which the UE determines selects the CSI-RS resource, the power offset for the CSI-RS resource is a second value.
  • In some implementations, each CSI-RS resource in the CSI-RS group is associated with two power offset values between a channel for calculating quality and the channel of the CSI-RS resource.
  • In some implementations, the UE determines the power offset for a CSI-RS resource in one CSI-RS group according to received quality of all CSI-RS resources in the CSI-RS group. For example, for each CSI-RS resource in the CSI-RS resource group, in the examples in which the UE determines that receiving qualities of all CSI-RS resources are similar or the same, or the difference between qualities of all CSI-RS resources is smaller than a threshold, the UE determines the power offset for the CSI-RS resource is a first value and the UE determines a new quality based on the first value for selection CSI-RS resource from the CSI-RS resource set. If the UE determines that receiving qualities of all CSI-RS resources are different or the difference between qualities of all CSI-RS resources is equal to or greater than the threshold, the power offset for the CSI-RS resource is a second value. In some implementation, the default power offset is a third value for each CSI-RS resource in the CSI-RS resource set, such as 1 dB.
  • In some implementations, the CSI-RS resources in one CSI-RS resource group share a same power offset. In the examples in which the UE receives beam from RIS, the UE adapts the quality for the beam to select beams from a beam set considering the cost of letting RIS serve the UE and the addition beam gain when introducing RIS.
  • In some arrangements, the CSI-RS can be replaced with another suitable reference signal, such as a synchronization signal or a DMRS.
  • In some arrangements, a middle node determines a transmission beam on an access link on a first signal/channel occasions based on transmission beams of the middle node on access link  on a second signal/channel occasions. The middle node determines the first signal/channel occasions and the second signal/channel occasions according to a control signaling received from another node (e.g., a BS) on the C-Link. For example, the control signaling includes Physical Broadcast Channel (PBCH) /System Information Block (SIB) signaling or cell-specific signaling on the C-Link. The middle node determines a mapping between the first signal/channel occasions and the second signal/channel occasions. The middle node transmits a beam on the access link on a first signal/channel occasion using a beam used by the middle node on the access link on a second signal/channel occasion corresponding to the first signal/channel occasion.
  • For example, a middle node determines a transmission beam on access link on msg 2 occasions based on transmission beams of the middle node on access link on SSB occasions. The middle node determines the msg 2 occasions and SSB occasions according to control signaling on the C-Link. For example, the control signaling includes PBCH/SIB signaling or cell-specific signaling on the C-Link.
  • FIG. 13 is a schematic diagram illustrating an example deployment 1300 including a BS 1310, a middle node 1320, and a UE 1330, according to various arrangements. As shown in FIG. 13, a C-link 1312 and backhaul link 1314 between the BS 1310 and the middle node 1320 can be provided to facilitate communications between the BS 1310 and the middle node 1320. There is an access link 1322 between the middle node 1320 and the UE 1330 to facilitate communications between the UE 1330 and the middle node 1320. The access link 1322 is transparent for the UE 1330. In an example in which there are S SSB occasions and L msg 2 occasions, the middle node 1320 determines a mapping between the S SSB occasions and the L msg 2 occasions. The middle node 1320 transmits a beam on the access link 1322 on a msg 2 occasion using a beam used by the middle node 1320 on the access link 1322 on a SSB occasion  corresponding to the msg 2 occasion. The S SSB occasions can only map to some of the L msg 2 occasions. The S can be greater, equal to, or lesser than L.
  • In the example in which the middle node 1320 is a RIS, the beam can be replaced with a set phase parameters, each of which corresponds to a phase parameter of an antenna element (or a reflector element) of the RIS. If S is lesser than L, there is some second signal/channel occasion without a corresponding beam of the first signal/channel occasion. The transmission beam of the middle node 1320 is determined by other control signaling on the C-Link 1312. In some implementation, the C-link 1312 and backhaul link 1314 are within the same frequency-domain range.
  • In some arrangements, the middle node 1320 determines an on/off state based on a signal/channel occasion on the backhaul link 1314. The signal/channel occasion on the backhaul link 1314 is determined based on at least one of control signaling on the C-link 1312 or its selection of SSB on an access link. In some implementations, the C-link 1312 and backhaul link 1314 are within the same frequency-domain range. The signal/channel includes broadcast or cell-specific signal/channel on the backhaul link 1314. For example, the signal/channel includes SSB, SIB, cell-specific control channel, and so on. On the signal/channel occasion, the middle node 1320 determines its state is an on state. In some implementations, the middle node 1320 determines that its state is an off state outside the signal/channel occasion, unless the middle node 1320 receives other signaling from the BS 1310 informing its on or off state occasion outside the signal/channel occasion.
  • In some implementations in which the middle node 1320 selects at least one SSB on its PRACH process or its measurement process. The middle node 1320 determines that its state is  the on state for only partial SSB occasions instead of all the SSB occasions. The partial SSB occasions are determined by selection reported by the middle node 1320 on its PRACH process or its measurement process. The middle node 1320 can also determine the partial SSB according a signaling received from the BS 1310 on C-link 1312.
  • In some arrangements, the middle node 1320 reports its capability of the maximum number of beams transmitted on the access link 1322 simultaneously. In the beam training stage, the middle node 1320 can transmit one beam on access link 1322 at a given time to get more accurate beam training result. In data communication, the middle node 1320 can transmit more than one beam simultaneously on access link 1322 to cover or serve more UEs.
  • In some implementation, the middle node 1320 reports beam groups to the BS 1310. The beams in different beam groups can be transmitted by the middle node 1320 on the access link 1322 simultaneously. The beams in same beam group cannot be transmitted by the middle node 1320 on the access link 1322 simultaneously. Alternatively, the beams in different beam groups cannot be transmitted by the middle node 1320 on the access link 1322 simultaneously. The beams in same beam group can be transmitted by the middle node 1320 on the access link 1322 simultaneously.
  • In some examples, in addition to the RIS, other examples of the middle node 1320 can include a relay node, an IAB node, a NCR node, and so on. In some examples, the middle node 1320 is between the BS and the UE and transmits and reflects signal from the BS 1310 to the UE 1330, or from UE 1330 to the base station 1310.
  • FIG. 14 illustrates a block diagram of an example node and an example UE, according to various arrangements. The node 1400 is an example of a BS, evolved node B (eNB) , a femto  station, a pico station, RIS, relay node, IAB node, NCR node, or middle node. The node 1400 includes a transceiver module 1410, an antenna 1412, a processor module 1414, a memory module 1416, and a network communication module 1418, each module being coupled and interconnected with one another as necessary via a data communication bus 1420. The UE 1420 includes a transceiver module 1430, an antenna 1432, a memory module 1434, and a processor module 1436, each module being coupled and interconnected with one another as necessary via a data communication bus 1440. The node 1400 communicates with the UE 1420 via a communication channel, link, connection, or beam, which can be any wireless channel or other medium suitable for transmission of data as described herein.
  • As would be understood by persons of ordinary skill in the art, the node 1400 and the UE 1420 can further include any number of modules other than the modules shown in FIG. 14. Those skilled in the art will understand that the various illustrative blocks, modules, circuits, and processing logic described in connection with the implementations disclosed herein may be implemented in hardware, computer-readable software, firmware, or any practical combination thereof. To clearly illustrate this interchangeability and compatibility of hardware, firmware, and software, various illustrative components, blocks, modules, circuits, and steps are described generally in terms of their functionality. Whether such functionality is implemented as hardware, firmware, or software can depend upon the particular application and design constraints imposed on the overall system. Those familiar with the concepts described herein may implement such functionality in a suitable manner for each particular application, but such implementation decisions should not be interpreted as limiting the scope of the present disclosure.
  • In accordance with some implementations, the transceiver 1430 can be referred to herein as an uplink transceiver 1430 that includes a radio frequency (RF) transmitter and a RF  receiver each including circuitry that is coupled to the antenna 1432. A duplex switch (not shown) may alternatively couple the uplink transmitter or receiver to the uplink antenna in time duplex fashion. Similarly, in accordance with some implementations, the transceiver 1410 may be referred to herein as a downlink transceiver 1410 that includes a RF transmitter and a RF receiver each including circuity that is coupled to the antenna 1412. A downlink duplex switch may alternatively couple the downlink transmitter or receiver to the downlink antenna 1412 in time duplex fashion. The operations of the two transceiver modules 1410 and 1430 can be coordinated in time such that the uplink receiver circuitry is coupled to the uplink antenna 1432 for reception of transmissions over the wireless transmission link at the same time that the downlink transmitter is coupled to the downlink antenna 1412. In some implementations, there is close time synchronization with a minimal guard time between changes in duplex direction.
  • The transceiver 1430 and the transceiver 1410 are configured to communicate via the wireless data communication link (e.g., channels, connections, and beams) , and cooperate with a suitably configured RF antenna arrangement 1412/1432 that can support a particular wireless communication protocol and modulation scheme. In some illustrative implementations, the transceiver 1410 and the transceiver 1430 are configured to support industry standards such as the Long Term Evolution (LTE) and emerging 5G/6G standards, and the like. It is understood, however, that the present disclosure is not necessarily limited in application to a particular standard and associated protocols. Rather, the transceiver 1430 and the transceiver 1410 may be configured to support alternate, or additional, wireless data communication protocols, including future standards or variations thereof.
  • In some implementations, the UE 1420 can be various types of message clients such as a mobile phone, a smart phone, a personal digital assistant (PDA) , tablet, laptop computer,  wearable computing device, etc. The processor modules 1414 and 1436 may be implemented, or realized, with a general purpose processor, a content addressable memory, a digital signal processor, an application specific integrated circuit, a field programmable gate array, any suitable programmable logic device, discrete gate or transistor logic, discrete hardware components, or any combination thereof, designed to perform the functions described herein. In this manner, a processor may be realized as a microprocessor, a controller, a microcontroller, a state machine, or the like. A processor may also be implemented as a combination of computing devices, e.g., a combination of a digital signal processor and a microprocessor, a plurality of microprocessors, one or more microprocessors in conjunction with a digital signal processor core, or any other such configuration.
  • Furthermore, the steps of a method or algorithm described in connection with the implementations disclosed herein may be implemented directly in hardware, in firmware, in a software module executed by processor modules 1414 and 1436, respectively, or in any practical combination thereof. The memory modules 1416 and 1434 may be realized as RAM memory, flash memory, ROM memory, EPROM memory, EEPROM memory, registers, a hard disk, a removable disk, a CD-ROM, or any other form of storage medium known in the art. In this regard, memory modules 1416 and 1434 may be coupled to the processor modules 1410 and 1430, respectively, such that the processors modules 1410 and 1430 can read information from, and write information to, memory modules 1416 and 1434, respectively. The memory modules 1416 and 1434 may also be integrated into their respective processor modules 1410 and 1430. In some implementations, the memory modules 1416 and 1434 may each include a cache memory for storing temporary variables or other intermediate information during execution of instructions to be executed by processor modules 1410 and 1430, respectively. Memory modules 1416 and 1434  may also each include non-volatile memory for storing instructions to be executed by the processor modules 1410 and 1430, respectively.
  • The network communication module 1418 generally represents the hardware, software, firmware, processing logic, and/or other components of the node 1400 that enable bi-directional communication between transceiver 1410 and other network components and communication nodes (e.g., another node such as the node 1400) configured to communicate with the node 1400. For example, network communication module 1418 may be configured to support internet or WiMAX traffic. In a typical deployment, without limitation, network communication module 1418 provides an 802.3 Ethernet interface such that transceiver 1410 can communicate with a conventional Ethernet based computer network. In this manner, the network communication module 1418 may include a physical interface for connection to the computer network (e.g., Mobile Switching Center (MSC) ) . The terms “configured for, ” “configured to” and conjugations thereof, as used herein with respect to a specified operation or function, refer to a device, component, circuit, structure, machine, signal, etc., that is physically constructed, programmed, formatted and/or arranged to perform the specified operation or function.
  • While various implementations of the present solution have been described above, it should be understood that they have been presented by way of example only, and not by way of limitation. Likewise, the various diagrams may depict an example architectural or configuration, which are provided to enable persons of ordinary skill in the art to understand example features and functions of the present solution. Such persons would understand, however, that the solution is not restricted to the illustrated example architectures or configurations, but can be implemented using a variety of alternative architectures and configurations. Additionally, as would be understood by persons of ordinary skill in the art, one or more features of one implementation can  be combined with one or more features of another implementation described herein. Thus, the breadth and scope of the present disclosure should not be limited by any of the above-described illustrative implementations.
  • It is also understood that any reference to an element herein using a designation such as "first, " "second, " and so forth does not generally limit the quantity or order of those elements. Rather, these designations can be used herein as a convenient means of distinguishing between two or more elements or instances of an element. Thus, a reference to first and second elements does not mean that only two elements can be employed, or that the first element must precede the second element in some manner.
  • Additionally, a person having ordinary skill in the art would understand that information and signals can be represented using any of a variety of different technologies and techniques. For example, data, instructions, commands, information, signals, bits and symbols, for example, which may be referenced in the above description can be represented by voltages, currents, electromagnetic waves, magnetic fields or particles, optical fields or particles, or any combination thereof.
  • A person of ordinary skill in the art would further appreciate that any of the various illustrative logical blocks, modules, processors, means, circuits, methods and functions described in connection with the aspects disclosed herein can be implemented by electronic hardware (e.g., a digital implementation, an analog implementation, or a combination of the two) , firmware, various forms of program or design code incorporating instructions (which can be referred to herein, for convenience, as "software" or a "software module) , or any combination of these techniques. To clearly illustrate this interchangeability of hardware, firmware and software,  various illustrative components, blocks, modules, circuits, and steps have been described above generally in terms of their functionality. Whether such functionality is implemented as hardware, firmware or software, or a combination of these techniques, depends upon the particular application and design constraints imposed on the overall system. Skilled artisans can implement the described functionality in various ways for each particular application, but such implementation decisions do not cause a departure from the scope of the present disclosure.
  • Furthermore, a person of ordinary skill in the art would understand that various illustrative logical blocks, modules, devices, components and circuits described herein can be implemented within or performed by an integrated circuit (IC) that can include a general purpose processor, a digital signal processor (DSP) , an application specific integrated circuit (ASIC) , a field programmable gate array (FPGA) or other programmable logic device, or any combination thereof. The logical blocks, modules, and circuits can further include antennas and/or transceivers to communicate with various components within the network or within the device. A general purpose processor can be a microprocessor, but in the alternative, the processor can be any conventional processor, controller, or state machine. A processor can also be implemented as a combination of computing devices, e.g., a combination of a DSP and a microprocessor, a plurality of microprocessors, one or more microprocessors in conjunction with a DSP core, or any other suitable configuration to perform the functions described herein.
  • If implemented in software, the functions can be stored as one or more instructions or code on a computer-readable medium. Thus, the steps of a method or algorithm disclosed herein can be implemented as software stored on a computer-readable medium. Computer-readable media includes both computer storage media and communication media including any medium that can be enabled to transfer a computer program or code from one place to another. A storage  media can be any available media that can be accessed by a computer. By way of example, and not limitation, such computer-readable media can include RAM, ROM, EEPROM, CD-ROM or other optical disk storage, magnetic disk storage or other magnetic storage devices, or any other medium that can be used to store desired program code in the form of instructions or data structures and that can be accessed by a computer.
  • In this document, the term "module" as used herein, refers to software, firmware, hardware, and any combination of these elements for performing the associated functions described herein. Additionally, for purpose of discussion, the various modules are described as discrete modules; however, as would be apparent to one of ordinary skill in the art, two or more modules may be combined to form a single module that performs the associated functions according implementations of the present solution.
  • Additionally, memory or other storage, as well as communication components, may be employed in implementations of the present solution. It will be appreciated that, for clarity purposes, the above description has described implementations of the present solution with reference to different functional units and processors. However, it will be apparent that any suitable distribution of functionality between different functional units, processing logic elements or domains may be used without detracting from the present solution. For example, functionality illustrated to be performed by separate processing logic elements, or controllers, may be performed by the same processing logic element, or controller. Hence, references to specific functional units are only references to a suitable means for providing the described functionality, rather than indicative of a strict logical or physical structure or organization.
  • Various modifications to the implementations described in this disclosure will be readily apparent to those skilled in the art, and the general principles defined herein can be applied to other implementations without departing from the scope of this disclosure. Thus, the disclosure is not intended to be limited to the implementations shown herein, but is to be accorded the widest scope consistent with the novel features and principles disclosed herein, as recited in the claims below.

Claims (49)

  1. A wireless communication method, comprising:
    selecting, by a wireless communication device, one from a group of measurement reference signal resources and X measurement reference signal sources of the group of measurement reference signal resources, wherein X is equal to 1 or greater than 1, X is less than or equal to a number of measurement reference signal resource in the group of measurement reference signal resource; and
    reporting, by the wireless communication device to a node, the selected one from the group of measurement reference signal resources and the X measurement reference signal resources of the group of measurement reference signal resources.
  2. A wireless communication method, comprising:
    selecting, by a wireless communication device, a group of measurement reference signal resources in response to determining that a condition is satisfied, wherein the condition comprises at least one of an attribute difference of any two measurement reference signal resources in the group being less than a first threshold and attributes of all measurement reference signal resources in the group being greater than a third threshold ; and
    reporting, by the wireless communication device to a node, the selected group of measurement reference signal resources.
  3. The method of claim 1, wherein reporting the selected one from the group of measurement reference signal resources and the X measurement reference signal resources of the group of  measurement reference signal resources comprises at least one of:
    reporting, by the wireless communication device, the group of measurement reference signal resources, wherein the selected one is the group of measurement reference signal resource; or
    reporting, by the wireless communication device, an index of each of the X measurement reference signal resources of the group of measurement reference signal resources, wherein the selected one is the X measurement reference signal resources of the group of measurement reference signal resources.
  4. The method of claim 3, wherein the group of measurement reference signal resources and the index of each of the X measurement reference signal resources corresponds to difference values of a same reporting bits field.
  5. The method of claim 2, wherein reporting the selected group of measurement reference signal resources comprises the selected group of measurement reference signal resources corresponding to a value of a reporting bits field.
  6. The method of claim 4 or 5, wherein the number of bits of the one same reporting bits field or the number of bits of the reporting bit field is one of:
    ceil (log2 (M+S) ) ; or
    ceil (log2 (N+1) ) , wherein
    M is a number of measurement reference signal resources of a set of measurement reference signal resources, S is a number of groups of measurement reference signal resources in the set, and  N is a number of measurement reference signal resources of the group of measurement reference signal resources.
  7. The method of claim 4, wherein the wireless communication device reports two or more values of the same reporting field simultaneously, wherein either a value of the same reporting field corresponding to the group a or a value of the same reporting field corresponding to the index of the X measurement reference signal resource of the group of measurement reference signal resources is included in the two or more values.
  8. The method of claim 3, wherein the group of measurement reference signal resources and the index of each of the X measurement reference signal resources corresponds to two reporting bits fields.
  9. The method of claim 8, wherein a first bit field of the two reporting bits fields comprises two values, a first value of the two values represents that the selected one is the group of measurement reference signal resources and a second value of the two values represents the selected one is the X measurement reference signal resources.
  10. The method of claim 8 or 9, wherein a second bit field of the two reporting bits fields comprises X values, each of which corresponds to the index of one of the X measurement reference signal resources.
  11. The method of any of claims 3 to 10, wherein reporting one of the group of measurement  reference signal resources and the index of each of the X measurement reference signal resources using one or two reporting bits field is based on at least one of
    a relationship between ceil (log2 (M+S) ) and ceil (log2 (M) ) ,
    M;
    S;
    N;
    a relationship between ceil (log2 (M+1) ) and ceil (log2 (M) ) ; or
    a relationship between ceil (log2 (N+1) ) and ceil (log2 (N) ) ,
    wherein M is a number of measurement reference signal resources of a set of measurement reference signal resources, S is a number of groups of measurement reference signal resources included in the set, and N is a number of measurement reference signal resources of the group of measurement reference signal resources.
  12. The method of claim 1, wherein selecting one from the group of measurement reference signal resources and the X measurement reference signal resources of the group of measurement reference signal resources according to at least one of:
    a difference between attributes of measurement reference signal resources of the group of measurement reference signal resources;
    a correlation between channels of measurement reference signal resources of the group of measurement reference signal resources; or
    whether attributes of all measurement reference signal resources of the group of measurement reference signal resources are larger than a first threshold.
  13. The method of claim 1 or 12, wherein selecting one from the group of measurement reference signal resources and the X measurement reference signal resources of the group of measurement reference signal resources comprises at least one of:
    selecting, by the wireless communication device, the group of measurement reference signal resources in response to determining that attribute difference of two or more measurement reference signal resource of the group of measurement reference signal resources is less than a second threshold; or
    selecting, by the wireless communication device, the X measurement reference signal resources of the group of measurement reference signal resources in response to determining that attribute difference of two or more measurement reference signal resource of the group of measurement reference signal resources is equal to or greater than the second threshold.
  14. The method of claim 1 or 12, wherein selecting one from the group of measurement reference signal resources and the X measurement reference signal resources of the group of measurement reference signal resources comprises at least one of:
    selecting, by the wireless communication device, the group of measurement reference signal resources in response to determining that a correlation between channels of two or more measurement reference signal resource of the group of measurement reference signal resources is equal to or greater than a third threshold; or
    selecting, by the wireless communication device, the X measurement reference signal resources of the group of measurement reference signal resources in response to determining that a correlation between channels of two or more measurement reference signal resource of the group of measurement reference signal resources is equal to or less than the third threshold.
  15. The method of claim 1 or 12, wherein selecting one from the group of measurement reference signal resources and the X measurement reference signal resources of the group of measurement reference signal resources comprises at least one of:
    selecting, by the wireless communication device, the group of measurement reference signal resources in response to determining that attributes of all measurement reference signal resources of the group of measurement reference signal resources are equal to or larger than the first threshold; or
    selecting, by the wireless communication device, the X measurement reference signal resources of the group of measurement reference signal resources in response to determining that attribute of at least one of measurement reference signal resource of the group of measurement reference signal resources is less than the first threshold.
  16. The method of claim 1 or 2, wherein the wireless communication device selects the group of measurement reference signal resources and reports the group of measurement reference signal resources, the method further comprises:
    reporting, by the wireless communication device to the node, at least one attribute shared by Y measurement reference signal sources of the group of measurement reference signal resources, wherein Y is greater than 1 and less than or equal to a number of measurement reference signal sources of the group of measurement reference signal resources.
  17. The method of claim 1 or 2, wherein the wireless communication device selects the group of measurement reference signal resources and reports the group of measurement reference signal resources in response to determining that differences between attributes of any two or more  measurement reference signal sources of the group of measurement reference signal resources is below a first threshold.
  18. The method of claim 1 or 2, wherein the wireless communication device selects to the group of measurement reference signal resources and reports the group of measurement reference signal resources in response to determining that a correlation between channels of two or more measurement reference signal sources of the group of measurement reference signal resources is greater than or equals to a second threshold.
  19. The method of any of claim 14 to 18, wherein at least one of the first threshold, the second threshold, or the third threshold is determined by the wireless communication device according to at least one of:
    information sent by the wireless communication device to the node;
    information received by the wireless communication device from the node; or
    a value.
  20. The method of any of claim 1 to 19, wherein the selected one from the group of measurement reference signal resources and the X measurement reference signal resources of the group of measurement reference signal resources is reported in Uplink Control Information (UCI) .
  21. The method of any of claim 1 to 19, wherein the selected one from the group of measurement reference signal resources and the X measurement reference signal resources of the group of measurement reference signal resources is reported in a Physical Random Access Channel  (PRACH) process.
  22. The method of claim 2, wherein reporting the group of measurement reference signal resources in Uplink Control Information (UCI) .
  23. The method of claim 2, wherein reporting the group of measurement reference signal resources in a Physical Random Access Channel (PRACH) process.
  24. The method of any claims of 1-23, wherein selecting one from the group and the X measurement reference signal resources comprises:
    selecting, by the wireless communication device, one from the group of measurement reference signal resources, the X measurement reference signal sources of the group of measurement reference signal resources and F measurement reference signal sources of a set of measurement reference signal resources, wherein the set measurement reference signal resource set comprises S groups of measurement reference signal resource, the group of measurement reference signal resources is a group of the S groups and S is equal to 1 or greater than 1; and
    reporting, by the wireless communication device to the node, the selected one from the group and the X measurement reference signal resources.
  25. The method of any claims of 1-23, wherein selecting one from the group and the X measurement reference signal comprises:
    determining, by the wireless communication device, two or more groups from S groups of a set of measurement reference signal resources, wherein the two or more groups comprises the group  of the measurement reference signal resources;
    for each of the two or more groups, selecting, by the wireless communication device, one from the each group of measurement reference signal resources, one or more measurement reference signal sources of the each group of measurement reference signal resources, wherein the set of measurement reference signal resources comprises the S groups of measurement reference signal resource, S is equal to 1 or greater than 1; and
    reporting, by the wireless communication device to the node, the selected one for each of the two or more groups.
  26. The method of any of claims 1 to 23, wherein further comprising:
    selecting, by a wireless communication device, F measurement reference signal sources of a set of measurement reference signal resources, wherein the set of measurement reference signal resources comprises S groups of measurement reference signal resource, the group of measurement reference signal resources is one of the S groups and S is equal to 1 or greater than 1; and
    reporting, by the wireless communication device to the node, the selected one and the F measurement reference signal sources.
  27. The method of any of claim 1 to 26, wherein further comprising:
    determining, by the wireless communication device, a set of measurement reference signal resource according to received signaling or a rule, wherein the set measurement reference signal resource set comprises S groups of measurement reference signal resource and S is equal to 1 or greater than 1;
    receiving, by the wireless communication device, measurement reference signals on  measurement reference signal resources of the one measurement reference signal resource set;
    selecting, by the wireless communication device, the one from the group of measurement reference signal resources and X measurement reference signal sources based on the measurement reference signals, wherein the S groups of measurement reference signal resources includes the group of measurement reference signal resources.
  28. The method of claim 27, wherein the wireless communication device selects the group of measurement reference signal resources based on a measurement performed on the set of measurement reference signal resources.
  29. The method of any of claims 24 to 28, wherein the set of measurement reference signal resources and the S groups of measurement reference signal resources is determined by the wireless communication device according to a received signaling from the node.
  30. The method of claim 27, wherein that the wireless communication device selecting one from the group of measurement reference signal resources and the X measurement reference signal resources based on a measurement performed on the group of measurement reference signal resources.
  31. The method of claim 27, wherein the set of measurement reference signal resources comprises at least one measurement reference signal resource different from any of measurement reference signal resource of the S groups of measurement reference signal resources.
  32. The method of claims 1 or 27, further comprising determining, by the wireless communication device, the group of measurement reference signal resources according to a second signaling received by the wireless communication device from the node.
  33. The method of claim 1, further comprising determining, by the wireless communication device, a Physical Random Access Channel (PRACH) resource based on the selected one from the group of measurement reference signal resources and the X measurement reference signal resources of the group of measurement reference signal resources.
  34. The method of claim 33, wherein in response to selecting the group of measurement reference signal resources, determining, by the wireless communication device, the PRACH resource from a PRACH resource pool, wherein the PRACH resource pool comprises multiple PRACH resource groups, each of which corresponds to a measurement reference signal resource of the group of the measurement reference signal resources.
  35. The method of claim 33, wherein in response to selecting the group of measurement reference signal resources, determining, by the wireless communication device, the PRACH resource from a PRACH resource pool, wherein the PRACH resource pool comprises multiple PRACH resource sub groups, each of which is a first sub group of two sub groups of a PRACH resource group corresponding to a measurement reference signal resource of the group of the measurement reference signal resources.
  36. The method of claim 33, wherein in response to selecting the X measurement reference signal  resources, determining, by the wireless communication device, the PRACH resource from a PRACH resource group which corresponds to the X measurement reference signal, wherein X is 1.
  37. The method of claim 33, wherein in response to selecting the X measurement reference signal resources, determining, by the wireless communication device, the PRACH resource from a PRACH resource sub group which is a second sub group of two sub groups of a PRACH resource group corresponding to the X measurement reference signal resources of the group of the measurement reference signal resources, wherein X is 1.
  38. The method of claim 33, wherein in response to selecting the group of measurement reference signal resources, determining, by the wireless communication device, the PRACH resource from a PRACH resource group corresponding to the group of measurement reference signal resources, wherein there are N+1 PRACH resource groups, N is the number of measurement reference signal resources in the group of the measurement reference signal resources, each of the N measurement reference signal resources of the group corresponds to one of the N+1 PRACH resource groups and the group of measurement reference signal resource corresponds to one of the N+1 PRACH resource.
  39. The method of any of claim 1 to 38, wherein the select one is the group of the measurement reference signal resources, and wherein reporting the group of measurement reference signal resources comprises reporting, by the wireless communication device, an index of the group of measurement reference signal resources, or reporting indices for all measurement resources in the  group.
  40. The method of any of claim 1 to 38, wherein the selecting is based on a power offset between a channel for calculating an attribute of a measurement reference signal resource and a channel of the measurement reference signal resource.
  41. The method of claim 40, further comprising determining, by the wireless communication device, the power offset according to at least one of a relationship between attributes of measurement reference signal resources of the group of the measurement reference signal resources, and a received signaling.
  42. The method of any of claims 1 to 41, wherein
    the selected one from the group of measurement reference signal resources and the X measurement reference signal sources of the group of measurement reference signal resources is the X measurement reference signal resources; and
    the method further comprises reporting, by the wireless communication device to the node, an attribute for each of the X measurement reference signal resources.
  43. The method of any of claim 2, 13, 16, 40, or 42, wherein the attribute of a measurement reference signal resource includes at least one of Reference Signal Received Power (RSRP) , Signal to Interference and Noise Ratio (SINR) , Channel Quality Indication (CQI) , Reference Signal Received Quality (RSRQ) , and correlation of the measurement reference signal resource.
  44. The method of any of claims 1 to 43, wherein the measurement reference signal resource comprises a reference signal.
  45. The method of claim 44, wherein the reference signal comprises at least one of Channel State Information Reference Signal (CSI-RS) , Demodulation Reference Signal (DMRS) , and a synchronization signal.
  46. A wireless communication apparatus comprising at least one processor and a memory, wherein the at least one processor is configured to read code from the memory and implement the method recited in claim 1.
  47. A computer program product comprising a computer-readable program medium code stored thereupon, the code, when executed by at least one processor, causing the at least one processor to implement the method recited in claim 1.
  48. A wireless communication method, comprising:
    receiving, by a node from a wireless communication device, a selected one from a group of measurement reference signal resources and X measurement reference signal resources of the group of measurement reference signal resources, wherein the wireless communication device selects the one from the group of measurement reference signal resources and the X measurement reference signal sources of the group of measurement reference signal resources, wherein X is equal to 1 or greater than 1, X is less than or equal to a number of measurement reference signal resource in the group of measurement reference signal resource.
  49. A wireless communication method, comprising:
    receiving, by a node from a wireless communication device, a group of measurement reference signal resources, wherein the wireless communication device selects the group of measurement reference signal resources in response to determining that an attribute difference of any two measurement reference signal resources in the group is less than a threshold.
